I call mine blue even though it is sort of a grey color? With a blend of light yellowish red around the head, shoulders etc. along with the white of course? ;) Wayne

I believe they are "blue dilutes", with the bottom one being a lilac dilute. Not really sure, but I've heard those terms applied to pups like these.

Colors

The first one is blue and the other could be chocolate ( show beagle term )

Both are shown in the show ring, most show judges do not care for them.

But a good show judge will not even care about the colors, just good conformation, that is all that matters.

Bev you are right. The top is a blue (dilute of the black gene). The bottom is a lilac (Dilute of the brown(chocolate)) gene which is also a dilute of the black gene. AKC only allows the code for blue on both pups as there is no option for lilacs.

PA hunter they must be your pups. I would say you must of either baked them too long or not long enough.

Here is a link to the National Beagle Club of America. AKC gets their Beagle breed standard as well as acceptable colors from this club.
This page is to the Dilute colors and shows the Blues and lilacs. ;)

Here is what mine looks like, I call him White River Blue Smoke. He is out of White River Tuff E Nuff. He is seven months old and starting to put the smoke on my older dogs.
