Mr. Ooten, I absolutely love that ranger dog! A friend and I went to visit and run with Jim and we took Ranger, Dingus, his Donna female and two others. I liked them all, I was not used to that kind of hunt, by a whole pack in general. Usually you go and one or two dogs stand out, but not all of them. That particular day Dingus really took it to everything there. We jumped maybe 6 or 7 rabbits and if I recall, Dingus jumped all but 1, at least that’s what stands out to me. They all had crazy insane amount of hunt but Dingus seemed to know exactly where to go. Jim said others may look busier, but they don’t hunt harder. Some dogs just hunt “smarter”, but they were all aggressive. I personally liked Dingus better, he simply accomplished more, other dogs covered more area but he was “deeper under the brush” and he retrieved his rabbits…lol… but Jim said he didn’t do that until he hunted him with Ozzie, he claims Ozzie taught it to him. But Jim did say, “give that dog “Ranger” a couple of years and Dingus will take the back seat”, but then he said neither will be as good as when each other’s pups are bred together.R.Ooten (RUFF) wrote:Joe Lane came by here Monday for some Running and to pick up his pup. We ran for about 3 or 4 hrs on snow and the temp. was about 15. and if your thinking about breeding to LaneLine Lone Ranger your on the right track. He just turned 2 and he can put on a show he has extreme hunt, great jump dog, can handle a rough track and walk it out if thats what it takes, has a big mouth and used it right and he's not to hard on the eyes. this is the 2nd time i got to run with him. He will hold his own with ANY dog you put him on the ground with.
That’s what I like about these guys, they know the dogs in the last 2, 3, and 4 generations of the dogs that they are breeding together, along with the littermates, uncles, aunts… etc… They wake up with a clear plan, they never wing it. And they call a cull… a cull, and they rip up the papers and give it away…. Unless Jim is in a bad mood and the dog does something real bad…

Now Jim said he combined the Yellow Creek with the Dingus/Indian Hills for more brains/nose and patience. But he also said he bred Ozzie {which is 1/2 Gay Baker} to Roxie “Dingus/Indian Hill” for the exact same reason. Next he said “I’m taking those pups back to my baseline “pure Dingus”, and then those pups will be bred together. With the way your female is bred, I would think Dingus would be a good cross on her since she is showing the Dingus and Dingus/Gay, her being combined with Lane’s Dingus/Yellow Creek should mix well and be barn burners.
