I know cheating happens, but it has never happened in front of me because I will call it out on the spot.
I have seen some bad judging (not that often and usually because they are green or not physically fit), and have seen some bad calls (I am sure I have made a couple).

What I hear about is how people get cheated, and conspircies to make one dog win and make any "good dog" lose. Just lots of complaining and BS. Most of the people running around whining absolutely will not go up to someone's face and explain their percieved problem.

There are people that I point out as soon as I pull into the parking lot or walk in the club house that I guarantee are going to make at least 4 or 5 others day miserable. It is usually because they don't know the rules.

We all look for them, as soon as we see them, or even their truck, we start to hope we don't get cast out with them, or have to judge them.
If we do have to go out with them, we are dreading it and everyone in the cast dreads it. You can sense the tension those certain people cause even if they don't cause trouble (their dog wins).

You know some of the best casts I have been on, I didn't win.
Matter fact some of them the dogs looked liked idiots and all the handlers were laughing and cutting up because the train wreck of a pack we were watching.

The ones I really remember are the ones where the dogs ran as a solid pack and the handlers were all gentlemen enjoying the race.
Just happy to be there and see the dogs do what they are bred and trained to do.

I trail for fun and I love to watch dogs work.
When the B.S. factor outweighs the fun factor is when I quit.

I also shoot competitively (among other hobbies).
Right after our safety meetings the safety driector always says something to the effect of "...I want to see everyone smiling. If you came here to win at all costs - go home now because you are in the wrong place".
If you win a match, you get your name at the top of the shooters list for the month. No prizes, no points, just personal satisfaction.
I wish I could find a trial format that has the same attitude.
