dk,
What you kill today may not be there tomorrow, but it should be there next year. Hunting of rabbits has little impact on their populations from year to year. Rabbits are one of the most heavily preyed upon species, and when you kill a rabbit you're basically only taken food out of a predators mouth. If you don't kill it , something else will. Rabbits will breed the population back up to normal quickly in the spring and summer months. The most likely causes of declining rabbit populations is habitat, predators, and weather. There could be drastic cases of overhunting but it is highly unlikely.

i read a DNR report awhile back and basically hunters account for 10% or less of rabbits killed each year. predators and disease and lack of habitat were way ahead of hard hunting by humans. we used to harvest about 80 a year out of 1 spot (approx 60 acres) and still could if we wanted to from that spot. it had all the things a rabbit needs to live and populate... regardless of how hard we hunted it. year after year it is a hot spot whether hunted hard or not.

Swing, what do you mean I can not attend any UKC Hunt I want to? I attend UKC events almost every weekend. I recently had a conversation with UKC's owner and President at UKC's World Coonhound Championship. I knew the guy that owned it before he did. I know most of UKC's staff and have known them for a long, long time. I knew the folks that held their jobs before they held them.
