Sorry, I haven't tried it, but I would be interested in the same responses. I used to feed diamond but not anymore. I'm now looking a new dog food and Southern States is close by.

I had a freind of mine who hunts with me here in NC just gave me 100 lbs.
Just started feeding it last night. Smells good and the dogs woofed it down.
The fat and protein content was low and the base is corn. I just hate to look a gift horse in the mouth. I will let you know what my pens look like when I get home. I have a feeling there will be some extra dung to clean up. The bags I got are red and white.

I have fed Big Red Hi endurance for several Mo. now , it is 24/20 in a blue bag. I run the hounds very hard and trial some in the Mid West, i like the food and how the hounds look and act on it.
Big Red Nuggets do not have the power in it for hard working hounds.

i agree with one above its good feed but you have extra waste from the corn.thats with the big red nugets my father works there down in tazewell va i brought some of his bassett hounds out to get them started in my running pen and he sent along 200 bounds so now i'm feeding it for a while the beagles do good but a little to much to clean up after 10 beagles lol

I switched over to the Southern States Pro Ballace adult formula 22/12 last year about this time because of my dogs doing poorly o Diamond after 13 years of feeding it.
Been about 12 months, like the feed pretty good. Dogs look as good on this as they did on Diamond before Diamond went to the pot!

The Big Red Hi Pro is good. I wouldn't feed anything less. The drawback is the price. Southern States prices fluctuates a lot.

I'm feeding the Southern States Pro Balanced 26% protein/18 fat and like it real well. Clean up is minimum. Dogs look good on it. Most stores I've found are only carrying the lower protein, but any dealer should be able to order the higher protein and fat levels for you if thats what your hounds need. I'm getting it for $16- 50pds.

I have been a Diamond man since the mid 90's but have had the same bad experiences in the last two years as others have. I almost lost a female on this last batch and no it was not produced in Gaston . I am looking for a suitable replacement that is convenient for me. I bought a bag of the Big Red High Energy Plus and do like the looks of it but have made the decision to try a higher premium food. Southern States has available a high premium line called ProPet although the store here in Murray does not stock it they can get and it is available at all stores in KY. I have ordered in two bags of the Performance and will try it for about 6-8 weeks and see if it is as good as it sounds. It is higher priced but if it feeds out as I suspect it will you will feed much less of it and the cost per hound will be close to the less premium brands. The first 4 ingredients are chicken meal, brewers rice, chicken, chicken fat.
