Little Pack Judges(Awards)

Post by runnemhard »

First I'd like to say this is a positive post only! Please no negative comments here. This is for the good things you have seen throughtout the year. If you have issues with a judge contact the NKC.

There are many fine Little Pack judges out there, and it's that time of year when awards are being given and judges chosen for the runoff. Little pack occasionally has an issue, but for the most part is a pretty close family of friends.

Can you please give your input on awards such as Eades award, LP Judge of the Year, and nominations for Runoff Judges.

Thanks you for your time.

I'm with jimmie on that and there are several other great judges out there. In my opinion only, 95% of them try there best but unfortunatly they just dont have alot of time under there belt when judging dogs. What we do at our club is the person who is wanting to become a judge has to go out on at least 3 different cast with 3 different judges and stay with them during the entire cast ( hopfully asking questions as they go ) before we will even let them take the test. They will not make any calls, they are just there to observe. We ( Midwest Indiana Beagle Club) thinks this is a good idea to give the person a feel and for those gray areas to be answered while judging. Anyone can read the book and pass the test to be a judge but to be a good judge like those that Jimmie had mentioned you need to be a true houndsman and have time running over hounds.

Thanks for the input, but try to keep it to reccomendations of specific judges, thanks. Lets assume specific judges have passed the test, are houndsman, etc.... Good start Jimmie

I agree that there is alot of judges out there that are good and give it there all the entire time the are in the field. As for the runoff i thought that Mike kliaber was hand picking the judges himself for that.

Actually, the judges are nominated, then voted on by the e-board, which includes Mike.

Id have to agree with A-shock, there are some good up and coming judges that just need time under their belt. People like Mark and Jeff Brown, Mikey Smith (WV), Lynn Perkins, Sam Wells, Mike Klaiber, Jimmie Abshire, Chris Shoopman, Ron Wagner & Tom Floyd are some really good judges, I could name numerous ones but these are a few that come to mind. Just my 2 cents.

I am not sure about the awards as I dont know about all the qualifications. But as far as judges who are fair, know what they are doing and dont care who is on the other end of the lead.those are the kind of folks I love to see judging the big hunts, runoffs, etc.I would say Scott Spicer,Lynn Perkins,Jeff Brown,Mark Harmon,James or Jim Maguire(whichever one is the son)Kenneth Bell,Micheal Powers and if the Hatmaker guy is the one that has Skyview kennels then definitely him too. These choices are not meant to be a cut on anyone.I am sure there are plenty of other fine folks.I have seen plenty of good judges that I dont even know their name so I couldnt include them here.I have also heard good things about other people that are good judges but have never seen them judge myself so I didnt include them.Examples of this would be people like Chad Blair and Jimmy Abshire. There are also people I think are good judges and are fair but due to weight or age issues dont stay with dogs well.I didnt include those folks either and all the ones I mentioned are simply my opinion.

There was two brothers that judged me at the world one year that used walkie talkies and between the two of them they didnt miss a thing and was on top of the dogs the whole time.I dont remember who there names were but they did the best on that cast i have ever seen.I lost the cast but went away knowing I got beat by a better dog that day.

The 2 brothers were probably Forrest and Mitchell Kerns.

Both are solid judges.

The Ironton club is full of great judges. The Kerns brothers, Kevin Monroe, Scott Green, Mike Klaiber, Ron and Tom. Several KY judges stand out in Sammy Wells, Josh Long as well as other top judges like Tony Upton, Paul Prevot and Chris Bryant.

There are very good judges across the country in LP. There are also judges that do not try to stay with the dogs that know all the rules and judges that are newer and bust their tail to stay with the dogs but dont have that much experience. But the list above could judge my hounds and I would know at the end of the cast my dog got what it deserved.
