Fairly new to these beagles and only have 7 to choose from, but my Sport dog (FC Turbo Powered by Prop x FC Talk About Blueberry)is probably the best I have owned. There is a Dog from my past late 70's or Early 80's who went by Noname (grade dog) that was a corker. Dad found him in the mine parking lot and we gave him a home. He was short, fat and just nuts over rabbits. Kinda wish he was here to run with Sport and "L".
What makes Sport special is other than chaseing rabbit we had nothing in common at first and he never warmed to me for months and now he is the first to let everyone know he is my dog.

We had a male dog in the late 60's and early 70's that went back to pleasant Run,Pearson creek, yellow creek breeding that was a slower style dog than what we currently run but was by far the most complete hound we have ever owned. My Dad bought him from a breeder who was big in field trials back then.My Dad started him by himself and later bought a female for 10.00 to run with him because he was running silent. He started opening from the first time they ran together. While that dog was still very young(somewhere betwwen 6 and 9 months) my Dad visted with the breeder that had sold him this pup. While there my Dad got to see a international Field champion run.My dad told the breeder that the pup that he had bought from him was quite a bit better than that international. After the breeder just smiled at him my Dad watched for a few more minutes and without saying anything about it to the breeder, went home and got the pup. After that pup had ran with that international for a while the breeder started making offers to my Dad.He finally gave up after my Dad turned down a thousand dollars to sell a half interest in the dog. This was 1967 or 68 and I think my dad was making less than 100 bucks a week.(although at times he was working 2 or 3 jobs and made a little more)I was 4 or 5 at the time and I can still remember my stepmom not being too happy about him turning down that money.
While I am old enough now and smart enough to know that we probably had some bad days hunting with that dog I surely dont remember any. When I say bad days I dont mean not killing rabbits but rather days when that dog performed poorly. We never had trucks back then.We put guns in the back seat or floorboard and dogs in the trunk of the car.Every once in a while someone would claim they had a dog as good as that one.No matter how tired or sore my Dad was from work he was ready to put the dog the ground.I got to go on a few of those runs.(if the run was between friends)I saw some of the best races I have ever seen.Maybe a little slower than what we usually see today but a whole lot longer.Every once in a while I see someone that has dogs that go back to those lines.I still havent seen anything like that dog.Maybe he was just that good or maybe he was that good because he is just a memory now but it is still a good memory to have.Sorry for the long post

J,no problem here with the long reply. When you mentioned no trucks it brought back memories of hunting with my dad.He always put his dogs in the trunk. He never put a dog collar on a dog. When I asked him about that he said if you have a quality dog you will never lose it.Worked for him.I keep collars on mime.LOL The best dog I have ever owned in 30 years of hunting I raised from a pup 15 years ago.The sire was a grade dog my cousin owned.Best male I ever seen hunt and run.I bred him to a good jump dog.I kept a female pup.Best jump dog I ever seen.Above average track dog.I also turned down very good money at a time when our family could really use it. I will never have another one that good.I have been looking ever since no luck..

I'll gauranteee one thing the best dogs will be dead ninety percent of the time. I always wondered why this was and then I realized. If I tell you how good my dead dog was and how he could run all day and jump every rabbit in the woods hardly ever have a breakdown and how I killed rabbit after rabbit over him you can't ask to see him run and therefore prove me to be a liar because surprise the best dog i EVER OWNED WAS "OL BLUE" but dogone he is dead now. What a shame.

It may also be because we look at these hounds similar to how we view our family members.Once they are gone we tend to focus on happy/good memories and push the faults from our mind.As far as having to prove anything I have never been scared to show any hound on the ground. As far as this particular hound goes I can tell you there are people that hunted with him when he was around that still remember and ask about him.I think thats kinda cool.

THE BEST HOUND I EVER OWNED WAS A LINEBRED FC NORTHWAY SPUR MALE. HE WAS 4 1/2 WHEN I HAD TO PUT HIM DOWN FOR SLIPPING A DISC IN HIS BACK AND PARALIZING HIM. HE HAD A TON OF HUNT AND WAS VERY INDEPENDENT. HE JUMPED ALOT OF RABBITS FOR ME AND COULD PUSH ONE PRETTY GOOD. HE HAD A FAST MACHINE GUN CHOP MOUTH. THE ONLY THING HE COULD'VE USED WAS A LITTLE MORE FOOT, BUT I WAS SATISFIED. HE KNEW HOW TO CIRCLE A RABBIT TO THE GUN. WHEN I WANTED TO GO GUN HUNTING HE WAS THE FIRST ONE I WOULD LOAD, BECAUSE I KNEW IF I WANTED TO KILL SOME BUNNIES HE WOULD PRODUCE THEM. WHEN HE OPENED UP YOU BETTER HAVE HAD YOUR GUN READY BECAUSE THE RABBIT WAS UP. EVERYONE THAT RAN WITH SISQO LIKED HIM ALMOST AS WELL AS I DID. HE WAS JUST A WELL ROUNDED RABBIT HOUND. THE ONE THING I REGRET NOW ABOUT LOOSING HIM IS THAT I NEVER DID BREED HIM TO ANYTHING SO I HAVE NONE OF HIS OFFSPRING.

Buckshot I to had a very good Northway Bred Male out of Rockstar, he made things look easy. Had to have himput down over the same thing. I would rate him with my best. However, right now I have a dog when he hits the ground he is all out untill he is picked up. Very flashy and good looking hound. HE is out of Shawassee Bottom Gunner and Shady Hills LA I don't mind hunting him with anyone when I have time call and cometo KY to watch one of my best nounds ever Comanche.

The best dog I've ever owned is a 12 1/4" bluetick female by the name of Blazing Trails Blue Angel. I tell everyone GOD gives everyone that once in a lifetime dog. To me she was that dog. She had the hunt and desire of ten dogs bundled into one. True medium speed. I could go on an one about her positive attributes, but one word sums her up above all.
Each and everytime in the field she was one thing above all SOLID!
She was Jack/Trades, Dingus, Northwoods topside and double EC Trimmer/Sock It To Me on bottomside.
She's buried out back under a shade tree adjacent to the house. I'll miss her as long as I live.
