That red is a lilac. it is a double recessive gene of the black. One, because it is a chocolate, Two because it has the blue gene that causes the silvery sheen. I will attach the acceptable hound colors to this post so you can see there is no marking for lilac. You have to go with the dominant color on this hound which is blue. Its confusing I know.
You are correct about the tri color's. Most beagles ARE tri-colors. Maybe this will help ya understand the differences on how hounds can be tri's yet be different colors. No laughing at my ugly dogs, lol.
This is Southern Pepper. She is a tri color. She is AKC registered as a Blue Fawn and White. Note the tri color pup next to her on the bench then compare the colors on the blanket.
Image
This little Southern Little Red Corvette. She is a tri color. She is AKC registered as a Brown Tan and White. Her color is also called a Chocolate.
Image
This is Southern Domestic Dispute. He is a tri color. He is AKC registered and a black, tan and white.
Image
This is SOuthern Swamp Booger. He is a tri color. He is AKC registered and a Black White and Tan.
Image
This is Southern Pee Wee (Squirt). He is a Tri Color. He is AKC registered as a Black White Tan w/ ticking.
Image
This is Southern Eight ball. He is a tri color. He is registered as a Black and tan Bluetick.
Image
The AKC doesn't allow all of the colors of these hounds so we have to get as close as we can to the true markings. For example, dog #2 Little Red Corvette is closer to a red, tan and white but the AKC doesn't have that option on the list for colors.
Below is the list of colors for beagles. Note that Bluetick is not an option alone for beagles. Also note that there is no color marking for black tick. I hope this helps you understand where we are coming from.

Many times as the "blue" hounds get older, their color changes, I will show a pic of the same pup at three + months.

Look at the list again. Your dog would be a brown white and tan W/ ticking (if it has them. i can't tell from the picture if it has ticking).

This is Southern Little Man's Legacy. She is a littermate to Little Red Corvette. She is a Brown White tan w/ Ticking. She is not what most folks would consider a redtick because her ticking is not as intense,

This female belongs to Redbud. I wish I had a better picture of her as she is badly injured here from a coyote attack. She is a great example of a redtick but again, note the color markings above. She is a brown white and tan w/ ticking as well. If they allowed it she for sure would be a redtick because of the intensity of her ticking. Redtick is not currently on the marking list.
Hope this helps

Beagle coloring can be extreemly difficult to understand because there are so many gene loci activly involved. Funny, the Lab people argue about color all the time, and all the have to worry about are the B & E loci.
Add to that the fact that almost all photos will shift colors, and the identification of color can sometimes be impossable from the pic.
Here is a Red & White example, This "renound" hound judge was absolutly convinced that this dog is a Lemon & White

What would convince you that it is not????

Good eye,,, but there is something else even more pronounced that makes her a red&white and not a lemon.
