Terry I've seen males that are just as you said.... well just one. All others would hump a tree if it smelled right lol...

Re: Bryan
It's hard to believe that you trialed 2 females that were in FULL BLOWN HEAT.Do you have some of those not tonight I have a headache honey beagles? When my females are in heat they will knock a male down and jump on him!(lol) Brian from Mi.Bryan wrote:Yes you can hunt and run females while in heat. I just trialed (AKC) 2 females this weekend that were in full heat ready to be bred. I saw males that had to pee on everything and after every dog. My females could care less who they hunt and run with and don't smell every dog when turned loose. They go hunt when you turn out. Females will come in heat twice a year, while a male is in heat all year. I have had a male try to sniff on my female at a ARHA trial when she was not in heat. My female let him know what she thought and the male did not do anything in the hunt after that and the owner said he never acted like that before. Just my opinion.

If one dog is all you can have then I don't see it mattering male or female. I have seen or owned good males and females, the only thing is if you have a good female you can pick your stud. If you have a good male more than likely you won't have the selection of dames you can breed him to. But then again this will throw you over one dog.

You bring up a very good point! There is a list a mile long of the latest and greatest studs. For 200.00 to 250.00 you can breed to the so called best in the country.

Males vs Females
Got to wonder what harm it does if a male Ps on things??? Females P too. The fact that males are always interested in breeding, well, if they don't and you want to breed them, what to hell good are they?? They are SUPPOSED to breed. That's why their made the way they are. I'll take a male for several reasons. Think of it this way. If a female was in heat and you wanted to run her, be it in a trial or in a hunting pack, would you ask all the male owners to leave their dogs at home? Of coarse not, you'd keep your female at home. Nature has a lot to do with some of the obvious answers to our questions. JMHO

Dutches of Loony Dean Lodge
Females are my favorite. Dutchess of Loony Dean Lodge is like a Bull Dozer that plows through the thickest briars to hold a line. She is well on her way to becomming a Field Champion.
Her first and only Litter so far is also up and comming at 2 years of age they are Explosive.
Ruby and Sally are Litter mates to Bugsy and Baron of Loony Dean Lodge. They are out of Dutchess of Loony Dean Lodge Who carries a strong Armando's Hawkeye Line.
And Smokes Creek Syris Mcgee Who needs no introduction. Yes I kept the Litter (:
I can tell you the females in this Group are medium to fast speed but are brutal when it comes to holding the line and they are my favorite to watch in the field. Where as the males are fast and powerful they lack the line control the females have at this time.
