Rookie question about breeding

Post by General Jack »

Newbie here with some questions. I have recently purchased some dogs after a long layoff from beagling. I have 2 males that have pond creek blackie, Loveless Hustling Hank, Shorts LIne Boss, Luci Van Little Man, Fast Delivery Little Harvey, Deer Park Spike, Coverline Carla and D & W's Turbo in their pedigrees. I have a female whose father is Browns LA Playground and her mother is Arnolds Super Poison Ivy. My question is: should breeding these animals produce good medium speed gundogs? I have very limited experience and am hoping some of you master houndsmen may have some advice and/or opinions

breeding

Newbie,

What i would do is gun hunt them this season and look them over really good. If any of them are worth keeping, i'd keep what pleases you most.

If the female is not what you like....don't breed her!

Find another female, hopefully better.

"You can't get good dogs by breeding mediocre ones".

If your males are really good, hopefully someone with a good female will wish to breed to them and you can take a pup for stud fee?

Remember, there are alot of good dogs out there and a bad dog eats as much as a good one!

good luck,

i have had blood such as deer park spike, little harvey and luci,,,,,,and every one of them were med slow,,,,,,,,,like a ubgf hound,,,,,i know nothing about the females side so its all up to the speed the traits go back to,,,,,best thing to do is look at a few books and see what format most of these dogs ran and you might get a general idea,,,,,,,,but that what this forum is for to ask questions,,,,

Jack,
My new pup has some Coverline in her also. So far she is doing great! Just thought I'd chime in.
Take a kid hunting or fishing.
