Used my new collars today, unfortunetly.

I have not been running my dogs (3, 6 month olds) since i had a deer race and have not wanted to chance another. I got them out today with the collars even though I didn't want to use them for a few days while they are wearing them so they don't associate the shock with the collar unless they run a deer. Well right before leaving they started to burn one up so i got in better position to see whats going on and low and behold a nice big buck runs by me, a mere 20 yards away. Just to make sure I waited for them to come within sight and run the same track as the deer and they did. So I first hit dog #1 on level 3 for about 5 seconds and then switched to dog #2 for about five seconds then to dog #3 for seconds. Well they still wanted to run him so level 6 for what seemed like a long 8 seconds put them down and they knocked it off. I know its for the better but level 6 will sure put the hurtin on them, feel a little bad but I know its for the best. I guess I will have to set them up to see if they still want to run deer. By the way I got the new g-2's, 4 dog and they work well so far
Well, went out today and they were runnin great.

*****Next Day*****Ran about 5 off the bat and I was starting to feel good when it happened again. I seen one of my males take off and about 30 yards in front of him I seen the white flag of a doe. So I let him have it, same to the other two since they went after the other deer that split when we walked upon them. These pups just seem to good to be true except for the deer. I'm not givin up yet but I'm starting to get worried and angry. I;m geetin ready to hang a gland to live wire to fix'em. How many times do you usually have to shock them to break them. I know all dogs are different but the average, norm

All dogs are different. It will just depend on how stubborn and bullheaded they are. You seem to be on the right track though.

If you can, take them somewhere they won't see deer and let them run rabbits for a day or two and then take them back to deer haven and see what happens. That way they won't associate going out to getting shocked every time.

Anyway, keep us posted and good luck!

I hunt where there is alot of deer I have always had good luck breaking a dog off deer by going at night finding a deer and dropping the dogs right on top of it If they start running it zap em. Do this a few times and no problem runnning deer. You did it right though made sure they where runnin one I know alot of people will ruin a good hound by assuming they are running them.
