Ivomec

Post by Huntin54 »

I know this topic has been posted a thousand times over and over. But i was just wondering if ivomec has to be refrigerated. And when u order it does it come with a syringe to measure it out with. Let me know since i am going to be getting some of this soon. And what is the best place to get some that has the best price.

Thanks

It does not need refrigeration. However, I have read that you shouldn't expose it to direct sunlight. Keep it in the box.
It does not come with syringes. I bought mine from a farm store, Tractor Supply. It was about the same price as buying from one of the Kennel Supply Companys.
I use a 3cc syringe that I use to give regular immunizations. The tiny tuberculin syringe or the insulin syringe give more convenient graduations to measure the .1 cc per ten pounds dose, but the Ivermec is too thick to pass through those tiny needles.
I leave the needle in the bottle and squirt the medicine on the back of the tongue.

Does Ivomec just prevent worms or does it kill worms too?

You can get the small graduated syringes 1/10cc, with a larger needle at the vet supply stores... http://www.vetvax.com

BeaglerJay that is a very good question because I have heard many people ask it before and have heard both sides. I use it and have never seen a single worm come out of my dogs. They might have not had worms thou and the Ivomec may not be killing them either. Dont know what to tell you. I can tell you that one of my dogs a long time ago had the mange and it sure fixed that really quick.

I ordered mine from Southern States. It was 50cc's for $34.99. I also got 6 syringes. I talked to Doug he is the manager. The syringes were 1cc's they had 100 units which is 1 cc. so 10 units is 1 10th of a cc. And you give 1 10th per ten pound of dog weight. So a 20 pound dog would get 20 units or 2 10th's of a cc. The number is (304) 525-8685

That's it. You could try a local farm store if you are in a real hurry. Just make sure you get 1%. I'm pretty sure I saw it at Tractor Supply too.

i'VE BEEN READING EVERYONE'S POST ABOUT IVOMEC AND EVERYONE SAYS TO GIVE 1/10 CC FOR 10 LBS. i'VE BEEN USING IVOMEC FOR ABOUT 7-8 YRS AND WAS ALWAYS TOLD TO USE 1/10 CC FOR EVERY 20- 22 LBS, AND THIS CAME FROM A VET. SO WHICH DOSE IS RIGHT. DON'T FOR GET THAT THIS CAN NOT BE USE ON ANY TYPE OF SHEPHEARDS OR COLLIES.

I have been using Ivomec for about 10 or 12 year. I use the 1/10 per 10 pounds dose. From everything I have been told and read from different vets is that the smaller dose(1/10 per 20 pounds) is more for just heartworm prevention as to where the larger dose(1/10 per 10 pounds) will get all worms except tape worms.
I have never taken a dog to the vet and had him tell me that my dog had worms, because that is the first thing he will check for.I worm once a month, however during the winter I will alternate with a different wormer, usually Valbazin. And I will occassionally use Adams NO-Mo's for tape worms.
