I paid $2.69 a gallon for gas!!!!

Post by JPAT »

I paid $2.69 a gallons for gas today! And it will only go up from here I am sure. I dont know about everybody else but it will make it pretty hard to travel to field trials this fall. Once you figure in gas, entry fees, possibly a motel, and food it will add up to an expensive weekend. Does anyone think these gas prices will reduce entries? What other effects?

Josh,

You're just catching up with some of the rest of us. I was paying that for gas a month ago. Ya don't want to know where it's gonna go. And yep, I'm not going to go to many long distance trials specifically because of it.

All I can say it makes me sick because there is no reason for this increase in prices!! It will cut down on my travels.

We jumped up to $2.44 yesterday and that is pretty darn cheap from what I am hearing from the rest of my family. $2.75 in Wis. at least that in Mich and probably close to $3 in the U.P. considering I paid $2.60 when I crossed there a month ago and the rest of the prices were at $2.32 in Wis and Mich.

The oil companies are the only ones profiting from this mess. The only way to make a stand is to have a nation-wide boycott for a week or longer.

When I waw a kid traveling with good old grandad. I remember him complaining of gas prices when there where .28 cents a gallon. I rememeber pumping gas at 50.cent a gallon when worked in a station.
I now see it being posted in spot here in New York State 3.07 a gallon
OUCH ! Travel will be limited
Hope your hunting days are filled to the limit

Stop imports from China, we as citizens can't, but we can stop buying these imports. Slow the economy down in China and our gas prices will fall. Our prices are going up because China is now competing with us for it.

The question is, why does the farmer fatten his pigs? Surely not because he loves his pigs...

Not to get political here but the oil companies have not even begun to make up for their losses for the last 5 years.

The refineries are peaked and old and not very effecient. The ones that are have had billions spent on them for improvements. I heard a retired refinery worker say it costs upwards of $350,000,000 just to overhaul a unit.

Plus, China is driving the price up by buying so much of the oil up. Why do you think they were trying to buy the american company? Same with steel.

My best friend goes to church with a CEO of a very big oil company and is very, very good friends with him. That is what he was told.

The US is pumping every barrel they can squeeze out every day. We still rely on foreign oil and even they are pumping every last barrel a day they can get. They'd be stupid not to with barrels selling for $65. Why hold back?

There is absolutely nothing the government can do to lower the price of oil. It is a free market industry. It is traded and bought just like the stock market.

Some people think when an oil company makes a profit of 33 billion, that it is high. 33 billion is a drop in the bucket for what they spend and make weekly.

The only thing the government could do is lower the taxes, which still wouldn't be enough to make a difference or bring it down to what it was a year ago. Then you would lose billions in tax dollars.

And, it's still cheaper than it was in the late 70's.

I don't like this anymore than anyone else. To fill my truck up, it costs me an extra $9 than it did in the spring. However, as in all cases, it will come back down eventually.

Supply and Demand. It's simple, more demand than supply.

Swamper,
that was some analysis, sure your not on the White House staff. However you left a couple items out. The President and his staff is made up almost entirely of oil people, the so called energy policy was written to benifit the oil companies, not the consumers. For every .10 cents a gallon that gas goes up, the Bush/ Chenney connection is making millions in indirect revenue ( thats a polite way to say kick back, aka Halaburton) and stocks.

As I said, the government does not set prices.

If a company caps a rig, that is their business and there is absolutely nothing the president can do about it. However, I highly doubt capping is going on since the price is so high. It would be stupid to do so with oil selling for what it is. Plus, it doesn't matter how much they pump out of the ground, we don't have enough refineries to break it all down.

Just what would you do if you were president? Or should I say, what could you do?

Notice I didnt' blame Carter on the late 70's. Why, It wasn't his fault.

I talked to a lady at a gas station yesterday and she said gas will drop a small amount around labor day. (sept. 5) I remember when i got my liscense gas was 1.56. Wow. went up over 1 dollar a galon in 2 1/2 years.

Gas is $2.75 in southern Ohio. It goes up then goes down to $2.66 then goes back up. It is expected to peak around $3.40! Hunts will be awfully small.
