Tough night of running

Tough night of running
had the dogs out for a bit tonight but is so dry that once the rabbit hits the rye grass from the thorn bushes, the scent breaks down. Saw rabbits all over but they would get one up and get a 1/2 circle or so and then a long pause, then they would get another one up. I pulled them in after only an hour.
Anybody else having better runs this time of year.

I went out this evening with 4 hounds in tow and had pounding running for about 4 hours. We FINALLY got a small break from the heat today with a cold/rain front (high here today - 72 degrees) and it provided a great running opportunity...thank goodness I was off work, LOL.

Here in Upper Michigan it finally cooled off last Sunday evening and I ran every morning since, go out about 5 a.m. and run till 9 or 10 a.m. It has been great, yesterday it was cool and had rained some the night b/4. Had the best ground pounding since end of last season. It is supposed to heat back up starting tomorrow. Geez I can't wait for the fall. Hare

We had a decent run last night. Like goes1 here in MS it's been hot and DRY!! Once the dogs jumped one they only could 1/2 circle it. Temps finally fell the past two day from 98 to 90 so we hit it yesterday evening. Had one run where they circled and ran hard for about 20 minutes. I thought that was good for it to be as dry as it is. When fall gets here they should be in top shape and burning up some BUNNY BUTT!!!

Yes these past few days with it getting down to the mid 60's in the evenings, the dogs are running good. We had took 2 adults and 2 pups lastnight, hit into the small pine thicket, the bunnies were everywhere. Ran for almost 4 hrs. Good night
P.S. See ya up at your house Roy, be there at 6:30 or so. Talk at ya later.

I turned 3 dogs out at 7:15 this morning it was cool here in east tx but still bad dry,had two races that lasted 45 min a piece. the first race was the best they ran a big swamper out of hearing and back barking every breath the second race was a half grown rabbit that zigzaged the whole time wearing the dogs out and making me dizzy, but all in all was still a good run.
Jack wrote:Half circles, wow I would be glad to run half circle. Where we hunted last Spring is so dry that when sight of the game is lost the race is over. 102 for a week and a half. When you see the dogs they have mud around the nose, mouth and eyes.

Tonight My Dad and myself went out about 7 and my two did very good, considering the conditions DRY,DRY,DRY!! Had two hot runs that they ran for @30 minutes and one they bumped around about 5 minutes. Even my dad was impressed with how well they ran with it being as dry as it is. Always a good feeling when your father acts impressed!!

I always liked to go out and run them at night when it was real hot like this. Nothing like falling asleep next to a campfire, under a star light sky listening to the hounds run all night. It was always great for conditioning, not much check work to be had, but some high flying runs. It's been a few years since I had a chance to run at night, but it's a blast.
