I feed diamond and my dog look/hunt good and they like it.
We had an old dog trader that lived over in Joplin, Mo. (he's dead now) and he got in trouble with the law for feeding his dogs mule meat, they took all his dogs away from him and told him he couldn't have any for a year or two (I forgot how long). There was a big write up in the paper and a big fuss over it, his problem was: he did not kill the mule first, he tied it up in a old barn and allowed the hungry dogs to eat all the meat off the legs of the mule and the mule made enough noise that the neighbors came over and took pictures of the dogs feeding and turn him in. They had to kill the mule and it just made me sick to heard about something like this happening. I think I would feed cedar berries and fox tracks first or just get rid of the dogs!
What do you Feed?

But what does that story have to do with the price of cheese?
Did they use the mule to make Diamond dog food?...

It's nice to see some name's pop-up more than once, which verifies the quality of those foods, and puts them in the upper percentile of the preferred food list.
Unfortunately, not all names are available to everyone. Brian, of Blackdirt Beagles, mentioned a Sportmix 26/18 (blue bag) which he liked, but can no longer get.
This food is readily available in my area. On the otherhand, Black Gold is not found in my area.
The Diamond brand foods are also available to me, but it seems the jury is still out on this one, in consideration of what appears to be an unannounced formulation change.
In short, I find this thread useful in not that it singles out any one brand as "King of the Hill", but lists names of several very good proven foods that we can arm ourselves with as we search our local areas for one of these top quality foods. So thanks for sharing all the input, I find it very helpful.

I feed Southern States Big Red Professional High Endurance 24/20 and High Energy 26/18 that I get for 17 to 18 dollars a 50#. I can't get a lot of the feeds you all listed here outside of Richmond VA and both of these feed have worked well for me. Purina worked best for me up to using this and I liked their points system rebate but Even though Im paying a little more for the Big Red feed Im spending less per month on Dog food. If you buy this feed don't buy the cheaper Big Reds buy the two I listed. You won't be happy with the cheaper versions.

Fed a new Cody Brother's Feed but switched
I fed Cody Brother's 26/18 for a year and a half but I also sale all the Pride feeds so I figured I'd switch and compare the two. Now, I still feed a 26/18 but now I feed the Pride 26/18 and my dogs are doing a little better than off the Cody Brother's feed. These feeds are real close in quality but their stool is more firm off the Pride. I sale all the Pride feeds and recently they come out with a 26/20 and all the field trialers love it when they win a big that i have donated to the hunt. I usually donate the Elkhorn City Beagle Club some every hunt and some members say their dogs are really wired up on this feed.
