Flies on Dogs

Post by ridge hunter »

I am keeping the pens cleaned all the time but I am having trouble keeping flies off my dogs. Does anyone have any good ideas as to what I can use?

You can go to Rual King and get the Fly Wipe for horses or they also have a roll-on called Fly-Away...

A good fan will help. Might help keep the dogs a little cooler too.

Use 7-dust 5%. you can get it at any tractor supply, or wal-mart. Wal-Mart is going to be cheaper. Just take it once a week and spread around inside the dog box. It is very cheap. It is good for the dogs, and it also gets rid of ticks, they just dry up and fall off. The dogs roll in the seven dust, so you don't have to put it on them. I been using it for two years. No problems.

The best thing I have found is to go to your local farm store and get rubber ear tags for cattle. They are made to keep flies off of cows.Fold them over and stick the pointed barb in the hole. Then slide them on your dog`s collar. You won`t have any more flies bothering your dogs and they keep ticks and fleas off too.Everybody at my beagle club uses these tags on their collars and I tried it this spring and it works great.

go to wal-mart and get a fly bag its got powder that you mix with water and hang it in a tree or around the kennel it catches the flies and does a pretty good job.

I put out fly traps the sticky tape kind out around my pens , where the dogs can't get to them. It helps alot. I change them once a week or so.

We use 1/3 cup of White Vinegar and 1/3 cup of Pine-Sol and mix it with water in a spray bottle. Cheapest potion I have come across and works great. We started using it with our horse and it seems to work well on the dogs also.

You can also use garlic. Buy the garlic powder and put it on your dogs food. It will start to come out of their skin the same way it does if you were to eat it regularly. Keeps flies, mosquitoes, and fleas away.
