Here in Colorado beagle puppies go for $350-450 and I haven't seen any beagle out here that are worth anything as hunting dogs. Out here they're looked at more as pets and people are looking for AKC papers because they think that makes a better dog.

Tim H: I do not want to get into a apple and oranges thing. I do work for the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control so I guess that makes me the government. I see things everyday that would make you not eat lunch. I have gone to _ _ _ _ _ _ Beagle Farm and almost put the owner in a above ground kennel with the 7 dogs he was keeping in it. I do not agree with breeding dogs unless you are breeding for yourself. I do not believe there is any money in it and all it does is fills up the local animal shelters. Go to Animal Control or the Humane Society here in Indy and look at all the dogs. Why, first people who are not smart enough to put there female up when she comes into heat, and second puppy mills. I know alot of people here in Indy who have beagles and they are well cared for and that includes mine. I know when roll call is over in the morning it will be right back dealing with the same idiots as yesterday. I took a dog from a backyard today that was covered with maggots and had open wounds full of them also. The owner of this female dog that had six puppies thought it was just a normal thing. No, I do not have any problem with the people who care for their dogs and obey the laws but I can also say that there are very few if any puppy mills that obey the laws and care for the dogs. My opinion of a puppy mill is they are like anyother business, cut cost and turn a profit. This is only my opinion and like anyone else it is only my opinion. I am not asking you to agree with me but I am entitled to my opinion.

beaglehandler, I think it is an apples and oranges thing. You are talking about people who mistreat their dogs and spado said the animals looked healthy and had their shots.

Now your surely more knowledgable then I am on what kind of animals are in the human society but I've been to the one in Indianapolis many times and what I've seen there has, for the most part, not been from puppy mills but from owners who weren't ready for what they got into.
I also would say the conditions at some of the "shelters" are not as good as the conditions the dogs came out of.

Also, aren't there problems with over crowding in the "shelters"? How is it going to help by going after breeders who are caring for their animals, but have more than you or anyone else think they should?

I don't intend to disrespect you or what you do, I am sharing my point of view with you as you have with me.

#3 registered dog on the AKC's website guys.. I'll bet one in ten is sold for hunting or trialing. They make the best pets also so don't be too hard on these folks. Some people love em just cause they're cute!!!!!!!

Spado, okay, you don't need the tattoo if you knew what was going on; but to me that was your question. Ok I got my post in before the others so didn't have the hindsight the rest of ya'll had. BUT...you asked and I replied. No anger management needed here. Glasses ..maybe to see thru the smoke.
