Without a question NFC IFC Speedy Sport. He is at stud with Mike Mcphearson, in upstate New York.

one dog that i think is overlooked by akc and arha people,
is mark v king, out of ace in the hole, he is a ukc world champion, and is akc reg, he is reproducing champion dogs out of different females,
he is 8 years old, he is able to reproduce his likeness, to me that is what i look for in a stud dog. i know there are many others,

I like IFC Dirty Pond Legacy's Blacky, very hard hunter and excellent line control and can flat move a rabbit. You can see him on http://www.beaglescanada.com on the stud ad page. I have a full sister to him and she is tough. I will be breeding a Shaker female end of summer or early fall to him.

Good luck.

I know that Sport pups have done well in the Hare trials, but are there any that are being run or placing in SPO on cottontail, arha Little Pack or UKC, just curious as to what kind of results if any they have had on cottontail.

call David Sapp in Tollesboro Ky at 606-798-5008 on Rebel. He's Northway bred. Come look at a cross between Rebel and a Indian Hills female.

I have a sport pup who is burning cottontails.... I can't wait until he gets old enough to trial...

I'd say when it comes to studs.... You can't go wrong with REFFETT'S BLACK MAGIC, PERKINS RUN AND GUN BUZZ SAW, CHESTER, SPEEDY SPORT, and TREX....

Wallace, Pro pups are not fast, medium speed at best. They are well suited for UBGF and Deep South trials. I don't think you would have any success with pro pups in PBGA, NE SPO, Large Pack, ARHA PP or LP or UKC Gun Dog. So it depends what you want to run and where you live. Have you got many UBGF trials up there where you live?

Big Dog, It is my understanding that the young dogs tearing up the Large Pack circuit dams were cottontail bitches. So, I suspect, the Sport pups can run cottontails with the best of them. I know for certain that the Mid-West boys are looking to get some Sport pups out there. By the time we figure out whether his pups can run cottontails, he won't be producing any more. You snooze you loose! The thread started has who is the best right now, that has to be Sport, if you want fast hard hitting pups. Just look at the LP, including the Nationals, results. Another good thing, trialers and hunters will be standing in line to get a pup, Not like my well breed pups from champions. The last one I had to give away, and in only a month, he is tearing it up. You'll see him in a year or so. He is a very nice 15" male, isn't that what you run?

I have a male that has been breed within our kennel Sundown Black Bow. He has been in 2 AKC SPO hunts and has a 4th, 1 ARHA Large pack with a 9th, 3 ARHA Progressive hunts placeing 2nd twice and is a UKC Dual Grand. Hes only 3 yrs of age but he does it right regardless of format. We run UKC mostly but I plan on attending more of the other registries to try an finish him out in them. We have selectively breed Bow with great results. You can see a Pic at http://www.sundowbeagles.com

Maybe I'm mistaken in understanding what your saying here.

Why would the mid-west boys be trying to get Sport pups out there, by the time we figure out whether his pups can run cottontail? Isn't that putting the cart before the horse?

Also, why would he not be producing anymore if he is the Top Stud out there right now?

I don't know much about Sport so I am not commenting on whether he is the best stud out there or not, it just seems to me that I would want to know before breeding a dog for cottontail if it could run cottontail.

Tim,

It's simple. Sport is 11 years old. Argenteuil Striker was 10 when he started shooting blanks. How much longer is Sport going to be reproducing? I sure don't know, but if I owned him I would be freezing semen right now. I run hare breed dogs on cottontail without a problem and I expect Sports pups to do the same. The only issue I've ever had with hare dogs running cottontails is the lack of hunt when started on hare and introduced to cottontails later in life. This is a difficult transition for some. A friend has a couple of Sports pups pounding cottontails. That's enough for me to give it a try. I have 4 5 month old Sport pups I'm starting now. They are doing well. Look at the Large Pack Nationals results, they speak for themselves.
