Am I doing it right?

Post by BAYOU »

Folks I have three pups that I am trying to train by my self (newbie). One is 12 weeks and the other two are 10 weeks. They come great when called and fetch too. I have been doing yard obediance and it shows out in the field too. The down command is a little ruff to get but I will keep at it. I take them 4 to 5 days a week to run in fields and parks to them aquainted. I put them on a lot of rabbits that I catch sitting in the grass or ones that bound away. They haven't been close enough for a site chase but when I see a rabbit I take them to it and let them sniff around. Some times they follow a short ways and smell around and follow a short ways like they are getting the scent but mainly just come back and play around my feet. I ignore them when they are at my feet and continue on looking for another rabbit. I do realize that they are young but just wondering if I am doing things right or do I need a point in the right direction. Trying not to take them to a starting pen since it would be expensive for three pups, but I will if I have to. Any suggestions?

I agree with Ken. Just remeber that they are just like humans babies they have to grow up, let them be pups and you will be happy in the long run. You are doing the right thing. keep doing what you are doing.

Sounds like you're doing great. It's sometimes frustrating, but the day you here that first bawl come out while they are beating the brush. Well, after that the rest is history!!!! Good luck!!!!

It sounds like you are doing the same thing I am doing. I have a pup that just turned three months. I take her to the park in the evenings when the bunnies come out, and she loves it! She used to play around a lot, but one day it just hit her. She has site chased a few, but she mostly uses her nose to find the rabbits. She is trying to opening up when she finds a hot trail, but she hasn't developed her bark yet. Keep it up, and it will come soon.

Good luck!
