jip?

What is the meaning of the word "jip"? I know it is a female dog but any specifics? I remember my grandpa saying that but I asually say "female" or "bitch". Just wondering.

I have no idea where the word originated, but I have heard it all my life. It always means a female dog. Not sure of spelling, but I think it is "gep".

I've always seen it written as gyp. An old-timer gave me his take on the word. Back when every man thought he had to have a son to carry on his name, each time a female child was born he was said to have been "gypped". So boy babies were the good thing and anything else born was a gyp, lol!

That's how it was told to me. My poor dad was gypped three times!

I'm assuming gyp is short for gypsy, wonder where that plays into it all?
