LOSS IN THE KENNEL TODAY

Lost a great hound today, out of my Sy blood line. While running the hounds a rabitt crossed a 4 lane to avoid the hounds chasing him. Syris Brushbustin Nitro was ran over and killed.
They was over a 1/2 mile from where i set them out from the highway, i was tring to get to him but didn't make it in time. At least one guy who watched the dog get hit was decent enough to call me to let me know who hit the hound, keep going and my hound had been killed.
Not many that good around to call ya or stop.But i did take the chance to thank him.
Well another taken by the highway again, sure wished i got him trialed one time he was coming on strong and proving himself.
At least i did get to breed him to my bitch out of Sock It To Me,maybe i will get a male that was as good as he was out of this litter.
He is one of the hounds in my avatar.

It was very kind of that on-looker to let you know what happened to your hound. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that you are angry at the motorist who hit & run your hound. If I can I will stop & try to notify the owner of a hit dog (or cat), but we must all remember as dog owners that is is NOT the responsibility of the motorist to avoid hitting our dogs. There have been many accidents resulting in injuries or even fatalites that have been caused by a driver trying to avoid a dog that darted into the road. As such, it is taught to most motorists to NOT avoid hitting small animals that run into their paths. Should any companion animal run into the road & be struck it is a terrible tragedy that is distressing to both the animal's owner & the driver, but the motorist does the right thing by not putting their life & the lives of their passengers at risk by trying to dodge an animal. It OUR responsibility to make sure our dogs (& cats) don't get into the road for both the safety of the animal & the safety of the motorists travelling our highways & byways.

That being said, as someone who has also lost beloved companions to the road, I sure hate to hear of your loss Plateau. It can be really heartbreaking. Please forgive me should I have taken your post wrong. Rest in the knowledge that your hound is with his Creator with whom we too shall be with one day.

I'm sorry to hear your loss. I believe I have a litter mate brother to your Nitro. His name is KY Beagles Timber Rattler. I have bred him to a female directly out of Syris and she is due in a couple weeks. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll make you a deal on a pup.

Msu. No i'm not mad at the motorist, just the fact they should have stoped and tried to let the owner know. I understand that the family in the vehicle is more important than the dog and the family is not responcible cause the dog was doing his job,just a shame the rabitt out smarted him, and yes i'm pissed at the bunny.As for the hunting close to the road everyone knows who runs with me that safety is first, location to the road is next, so i was plenty far away i thought, but knowone knows what the hound chasing the bunny is going to do,so we take our losses and try to keep it from happeneing again.

no problem donnie,, if i breed anihilation this spring to my drews blue storm male i will keep you in thoughts of a pup,,, my son has her at his house running her 6 days a week ,she is really turning it up he says,,,,,,,,,jeff

Hate to hear it about Nitro Donnie. He was a good little hound. At least you'll get some pups with his blood flowing through them. I wish I would have seen the dogs out there sooner that day. I got to thinking about it and I couldn't have passed through there more than 30 minutes or so before he got hit. A real bummer.

thanks lonewolf keep me in mind when them pups get here.

james things like that happen and i know we both look out for each others hounds when out in the field, but we can't be right with them all the time.
although we try. just glad to see him go doing what he loved and was bred to do.

Looks like Nitro was a very handsome dog! Don't worry Plateau, if it makes you feel better if that ole bunny keeps on taking adversaries to highways to lose them, he too will become a casualty of the road. It's just a matter of time.

I think it's great you're not mad at the driver. That shows you have great understanding & maturity. Many ppl who have lost a buddy to the road often blame the driver when in actuality it's not the driver's fault.

As for the driver notifying you, speeds are high on 4-lanes & by the time the animal is hit, you've usually gone a considerable distance before you come to a stop. I don't know about where you're at, but where I am it is not the safest thing to run back down the side of a 4-lane to get a number off a collar. Even if the driver didn't stop, I don't think it was anything personal.

If it consoles you any, I have found in my experince that when the Lord takes a pet away, He usually does it so that He can make room for another who is just as good if not better. You'll have to let us know when He brings that new one into your life!
