Too Close For Comfort?? (Experience needed) *Update w/ pics*

Guys, I need some suggestions. I am thinking about making this cross. I do not want to make a poor decision on what dog to breed to my female. I realize that I will not be able to tell what the pups will be like until I do it, however, I am looking for experienced breeders to give me some helpful suggestions. What do you think, too close for comfort? Any suggestions would be helpful. I have had beagles for 19 years and this will be the first time that I will have a female bred. I usually run males, however, I have not had what I thought to be a good enough female to breed, until now. (I have already emailed Branko) If I decide not to breed to Timberjack, I am going to Hardenbaugh baby Blu. Thanks for any help and God Bless.

I think you are strengthening the Jack of all Trades blood. I think it is good sound line breeding. I do not have any Branko blood, but if I was trying to tighten up this breeding to Jack of all Trades I would not only think it was good sound breeding, but probably excellent. Go for it.

I've had many elder houndsman state that too much Jack Of All Trades could equal lack of hunt. Before someone that's a big Branko fan jumps at me, please understand that I keep Jack bred dogs too and firm believer in line breeding. However I don't think one should over compensation on just one dog. With that being said some of Branko's most successful cross have always been crossing Jack bred dogs back to Copper Boy bred stuff.

I'm sure with either Timberjack and Baby Blu you should get what you want.

I'm not an "expert" breeder but that looks like a good line bred cross to me. I dont own any Branko bred hounds but do like line breeding and that dont look too close to me. When looking at a particular hound's pedigree, I like to see consistency in the breedings with a particular direction in mind from the breeder. Looking at pedigrees where there's a dash of everything in there makes me wonder what direction the breeder was wanting to go with such a crossed up breeding. I dont klnow the Branko hounds well enough to say on this particular cross but I can say I like the way the pedigree above looks, good consistent line breeding.

I own a little bitch with Timberjack breeding and you could not buy her. She gives everthing she has every time out, she is a clean line running hound who can turn with the hare. Well I bred to Timberjack. Here are the two I kept. The first two pictures are my male. And the last two pictures are my female. They are 5 1/2 months old and have been running since they were 4 1/2 months old. So far, I like what I see! My goal is to shoot a rabbit for them before season is out. I will post that picture also. Hope you enjoy.

There is a guy here in South Western PA. that has a male that is out of Turbo power by Heli-Prop, and Jack of all Trades in his Ped. His name is Ed smith. He goes by the name Cornerstone on this borad. I seen this dog run a lot, he has a lot of foot in him. Plus he's a rabbit champion. I hope this helps.

Schag, I am not an expert breeder ither. But i like the Able East Coast Trimmer in the pedigree, I have that hound in my line. I don't have any Branko hounds. But this pedigree doesn't look to close to me. Looks like good strong line breeding. Just make sure you find out all the good traits and bad traits you are willing to accept. I strongly suggest you CULL HARD dont keep just average hounds! I have heard that the Branko line hounds are rough running as gun dogs ? This line was mostly breed for largepack on Hare fieldtrailing. Correct me if i am wrong.

First of all, thanks for all of the compliments about the dogs mostly through p.m.'s.

Rabbit Fever, I have had some Branko bred hounds that were in fact rough as a cob! On the other hand, I have had some that were clean and nice. Just like anything it all depends. Each dog is different in some way. The best hound I ever saw run a rabbit was a FULL branko bred hound out of Jack of All trades. He was bought as a running hound from Branko and made the switch to cottontails with ease. (NOT ROUGH AT ALL) He was a superb gun dog. The mommy to these pups is a nice, clean, line running hound that has brains to stay under control. You see what she is out of. Yesterday, I ran the pups with their mommy and if I wanted to shoot the rabbit they were running I could have. It circled at least four times in the woods and I caught the dogs off of it. So, I agree with you that some Branko dogs can be wild, but some can stay under control. On the reverse side, some "cottontail bred dogs" can get rough also. But, take a look at any pedigree out there today, it is tough not to find Branko in them somewhere! Oh, by the way, who produced Jack of all trades along with many other Large pack on hare field trial champions. You got it, East Coast Trimmer. In conclusion, from my own personal experience, yes, some branko dogs can be rough. But some can be outstanding field trial and gun dogs also.
