need help on handling problem

have a dog that will come on check cord and e collar in back yard you let him go runs rabbits like crazy when you call he goes other way after while he will wander up to house. when you shock him harder he runs farther he will not listen he knows when it is time to quit has any body had this problem if so what can i do i am getting real mad with this hound.

first of all does he know that he is supposed to come to you when he gets shocked...he needs to kno that first...second of all is he running rabbits when you try to call him..because i have had 3 beagles and not a one of them would come to me while they were running rabbits..i have heard of dogs that will come while running rabbits but have never seen it(thats lacking desire if you ask me but thats my opinion and another story)...and if he knows to come to you when he is shocked and he just runs away and hes not running rabbits when you shock him then try taking about a 10 length of weedeater string and tie it to his collar and after he is done running call him and get his attention then step on the string and call his name and here, or whatever you say to get him to come to you, while you are pulling him towards you. hope this helps a little bit....keith

Take him out with no intention of running rabbit. Let him get about 10-20 feet away and call him back. Praise him if he comes. If he doesn't come then lightly shock him with just a quick touch on the button. If he comes, praise him.

Basically you want to build an imaginary fence around you to where you set the distance he can go. Everytime he gets to the edge of that imaginary fence just touch him with the collar. Hopefully after repeating this enough times he will learn that the closer he is to you the less he has to fear the collar.

As he responds better and better to you, then you increase the size of the imaginary fence. It's just like training a dog on the lead, you don't start off with a 50' lead you start with a 6' lead the better the dog responds the more slack you give them.

yes i ahd that problem with a female i had . finally got ticked off let her loose after she walked away about 20 feet i called she wouldnt come knew she wasnt on a coprd or any thing i layed her down on 5 she rolled and sqirmed got up i called clapped my handskneeled down begged still no luck called again ,,she didnt come i layed her down againa and poured it to her she rolled and screamed . i let her back up same thing again but after i let her up that timje she ran to me i praised her and was never a problem again .. i had had enuf i was gonna blow her head off of break her thankfully she broke!

i have had this problem your going to have to do one or two things frist go to a 10acre or biger runing pin rabbit or fox does not matter let her go strat at 1or2 at close range and let her move out father if this does not wroke thin give her all you got untill she gets the message it sounds to me this is your only opitions left

Tim H is on this one. I would use some positive reinforcement for when she comes. Nicking is not enough. Start with the setting on 2 and her close and dont let up till she comes. I have dropped walker coondogs with a 6 but this isnt good for the dog I have also lost a female beagle who went thru the collar running a deer. I would of culled her anyway. I dont want any hound,gaurd dog, etc. that doesnt respond to proper training. All dogs are pack animals and should respond to the alpha dog, which should be you. Remember dont give a command you cant enforce.

John I start all my pups to come with a whistle as soon as I get them!
Every time you feed , you hit your whistle. When you get in the field you hit your whistle and when they come you treat them. Now they know what come means and you can "tickle" them as necessary!
You must start young with the whistle, every time you feed!!!

My friend and I train dogs for others we or retired and this is A hobby for us. Most people will not be ferm enough when bringing A dog in that refuses to come. We call A few times if know responce we shock if they run the wrong way we continue to shock them untel they start toword us. As long as they or coming in our derections we lay off the coller and call. If they stop or start another derection we shock again and continue to shock in short bursts untel we get the responce we want. It works for us.
We have not had A dog yet we could not make come in when called.

Block the dog house. Stand by the open gate and continue to call it while a partner is outside the pen not saying anything, but, spraying it with a hose pipe no matter where it goes until it comes to you. Once you touch it, stop spraying.
If you have open country and a seldom used field road, wait until it is close to your truck, call once then just drive off slowly with it following. Speed up as long as it is following. Slow down or stop if it stops then move off when it comes. Keep calling out the window until it gets tired and starts running out to the side of you hoping you see it and stop. I've even seen them bark to get your attention. Act like you don't see, don't look at it and keep calling and moving along. It's amazing what a tired dog afraid of being left alone will do to get your attention. Stop and it'll come right to you. Once or twice and the dog will come out of fear of being left. I know folks that just toot their vehicle horn and their dogs come before the train leaves!
