From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
Your half right, you could start with the Bramlett line but the pound puppy would not be the best choice for the other. Take two well established, long bred lines that complement each other and cross them, then, take the best of those offspring that meet your standard and cross them back together. This is the start of "your line".
The traits set and the consistency established already in the two lines will save you much time in getting to where you want to be...
Best of luck

In my opinion, A person breeds to better the breed and the rabbit hunters and field trialers will let the breeder know when they have their our line. You will not have to toot your own horn. Your breeding program will do it for you.
If a breeder has to spend a lot of money on advertisement then I say they do not have their own line. They still have to rely on the hounds of the past in the pedigree to speak for their hounds of today. Only a opinion.

The time it takes to have your own line depends on how your pups from the breedings you choose ttturn out performance wise.
If they do real well, everyones line your females are out of and and the studs line you chose to bred to will claim its because of their line your pups are doing great.
If your choice of breedings produces pups that are duds, then they all are a product of your line and no one will want to claim them.
So, its much easier to establish your own line with duds to start with and then improve that line to winners after everyone kicks them than to start off with great pups.
