The problem with posting names is how do you know the story I told you was true??? And Im not trying to get even with someone? Or because I dont like them I am spreading BS lies? Or maybe I just dont like the way they present themselves. That is the point behind if you want to tell who it is dont use their name on the boards but email the folks who want to know. That is just my opinion. Now if you had several people who knows of what the person is doing then you have people that are backing your story. Maybe that would be ok, but one word against another isnt gonna cut it without proof of the deed. Hate not being able to take a mans word for what its worth now adays, but that is just how it is. and believe me it sucks~

Samlyn, your situation was one that prompted me to make this post. This is something that stikes to my very soul as I'm a firm believer that a man's word is his bond. When I was into coon hunting the last two dogs I had for sale, I ended up loosing, with NOT a penny to my name for either one of them. Let me say these were not $200.00 to $500.00 beagles but both were young 3 year old dogs lacking just a few points of being night champions and both had their first place wins. The male dog went out on trial with a guy one night and came back in the back of his truck splattered like a pancake. The female went out with the son-in-law of a so called friend of mine who called me the next afternoon saying that they had lost her just 2 miles down the road from my house and hadn't been able to find her. Funny part is the son-in-law returned my tracking collar that they had borrowed to hunt the female with so they wouldn't loose her. Folks I lost about $5000.00 dollars within a 2 week period but that's not all I lost. I also lost the desire to hunt for quite some time, the desire to coon hunt period, my trust in others and a so-called friend. At the time these things happened I didn't even own a computer nor did I have any idea of what the internet was but you can rest assured that I told my story to all that I had the chance to tell it too. Did I give a rats a** about slander? NO, because the only way you can slander someone is if you are making FALSE charges. I told people that I knew would run and tell them what I said just hoping they would sue me for slander. Guess what, it never happened.

YOU'RE RIGHT SAMLYN. BUT AGAIN IT ALL COMES DOWN TO TRUST.
IF YOU CAN'T TRUST THE PERSON TO DEAL HONESTLY DON'T DEAL WITH HIM/HER. I WOULD NAME THEM & EXPLAIN MY REASONS, ANYONE WHO
DON'T BELIEVE ME DON'T HAVE TO READ THE POST.

Oakhill,
That story sounds familar. Not to make fun, but that is why I transported it for you and him for nothing. The young boy was getting a beagle and if he would have told me he did not have the money I would have paid for it. He did not teach his son very well but the boy maybe got started and it will keep him off the streets. I am sorry you never got your money but down the road the big man upstairs will pay good deeds back. I watched one of your pups you sold a guy up here the other day and it is doing well. I cannot think of the guys name right now, must be old age. lol

Oakhill is another fine person that added to me making this post, she got the elevator shaft by just being a good hearted trust worthy person. I've met some great people on this board but my point in all of this is how can they maintain their trust if we let the good hearted people down but not opening our mouths and appearing to condone such actions. None of these people knew I was going to make this post but after hearing some of these stories I had to get some opinions of how other beaglers felt about it.
How would you folks like to have these types of shady people joining your beagle club, eyeing your dogs, maybe becoming your friend and knowing where you live just as my past good ole buddy did. Once a thief always a thief in my book and I certainly want to be aware of everyone of them I can.

if you pay for something and you don't recieve it and are getting a lot of excuses then I see nothing wrong with telling about it, seems to me that if you are telling the truth and the person is a crook then given time there would be a pattern of other people complaining and if you are just whining then it will also show up in time.
I have sold and shipped quite a few dogs over the past few years and I never ship one until I have all of the money in my hand. I deliver what I promise, dog, papers, etc. Don't leave yourself open to be taken advantage of. In Oakhill's situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I have a soft spot in my heart for youngsters getting started in the beagling business. Complete honesty is always the best policy, period. I don't have a problem with letting others know about dishonest folks that make a habit of taking advantage of others.

Life's what you make of it!
Ranger, I'm glad you're able to sell and ship quite a few dogs with no problems as that's the way it should be. It's great that all of those folks you sold to trusted your word to send you the money BEFORE you sent the dog. That's the way doing business via the internet has to work. Someone has to trust the other in order to close a transaction. What if all folks dealt with you the same way you deal with them and said NO money until I get my merchandise, which is the exact thing you are asking of them? You, would either have to trust them as you expect them to do you or NOT have a sale. I'm glad you posted this scenerio as this is also what I was getting at. If we want to continue to buy and sell on these boards there has to be a means of policing those unworthy of the trust it takes to do so. I hate it when good, honest folks get shafted as that has a tendency to ruin it for all of us. It reminds me of the old saying of "One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch". In MHO this is NOT true because if you leave that one bad apple in the bunch it will have a souring effect on the rest but if disposed of quickly nothing will be left to leave a sour taste in anyone's mouth.

I feel for Oakhill and others.I've had the same. Some people think no good deed should go unpunished.
There are a number of people I know - have known for years - decades I would do the same for.Aka no money now but later. But that stops real quick with people I do not - have never met.Hate to be that way but no money no pup or older dog.Any pups - dogs I've sold were the result of a lot of work and research.Handshake deals are not what they use to be ! I don't intend to be stiffed again.
Look at it - try it all you like with "ME" until satisified. If for "Any " reason you decide not to buy we will have a cup of coffee and talk dogs. But if you drive off it's your pooch and you can bet I will have the real money in my pocket.
A word about kids and dogs.I'm a man that has spent his adult life bending my knee to help children. Various childrens homes - hospitals etc.Write checks every month. But I also beleive in what I call : ...
The Billy Coleman Work Ethic for healthly children.Aka Where the Red Fern Grows. You want something in life be willing to work to get it.I did.My childhood was just about like that Coleman kid's.That boy in the above post learned NOTHING but how to cheat people. He will repeat the cycle.

Internet Deals
I am going to make this post, it may or may not apply, but I think it is in line with what you started out with. Take for instance you get told that a dog is trial ready, and low and behold when you get it home, it has great hunt, babbles in a check area, backtracks some, and really cant circle a rabbit to save its life. I feel that it is not the sellers fault! It was the buyer (me) going against everything he has ever learned about buying a finished hound. Number 1, always go see this dog run, Number 2, never listen to somebody build a dog up and take it as the gosple truth, and finally Number 3, always get a trial period on paper. You may take home a really good hound or you may take home a really expensive babbler. I for one will never again trust anyone again when it comes to buying a finished hound! As for the " less than expected hound " it has great hunt, so maybe I can breed this once great dog to a good female and have some good pups, maybe or maybe not, just know it is a "buyer beware"market, so watch your back!!! Thanks for reading, Tom Clouse
