Getting another Beagle

Post by Ryan »

I was thinking of getting another Beagle this Summer so that our original Beagle had someone to play with while we are gone during the day. Our Beagle is very much a house pet and a favorite of everyone. I am concerned that he will feel jealous if we get another Beagle ... Has anyone introduced new dogs to your Beagle before (when you have had just one for a while)? He loves other dogs, but not sure what he will do when the new dog is part of the family....

Beagles are pack dogs and should be able to get along. How old is your current beagle? I introduced a pup into the house when the other 2 were 9 and 7. They adapted and are now all best of friends. Helps if original dog is well socialized. Not sure about the buddy in the daytime though. I crate 2 while out, 1 loose. Like to come home to intact furniture and dry rugs! The oldest was much happier when another dog around, her pup. Much more settled and content. Good luck!

My Beagle that I have now is 10 months old. He is pretty well trained and is an indoor/outdoor dog. That is, he is inside when we are homw and in a kennel when we are at work. Thanks for the reply.
