I use triple anti-biotic. Works great. Also I have one Lemon Beagle and his skin is not near as tuff as my other dogs.

Dogs are like horses, look at the color of the skin not the hair. A dark skinned dog will not cut and bleed as much as a light or pink colored dog.
Some dogs have dark skin even with light colored hair. Check your dogs and see if I'm right.

I am sure you are right. All my lemons have pink skin and it is the color of the skin not the hair that makes the difference. These little Satsuma hounds may not wear well in the briers, but they sure do well chasing bunnies. I will use udder balm, get them all Snoopy hats or what ever it takes to keep them running. Thanks for all the good information on this post.

Caincutter, I have never seen one bleed to death from briars and never seen them bleed enough to lose strength. It worries us much more than it should. Enjoy your beagles.

Up here, a lot of the briars and thorns are toxic. I've had hawthorns pierce a knuckel get infected to where I couldn't bend the finger for months. A triple anti-biotic will do well to keep ears in good shape. I also use it for torn tail tips.
