Any one out there ever hear of a hound, or any breed dog having what is called a collapsing trachea? Apparently it starts as tracheal bronchitis and turns into a condition where the dogs trachea collapses and causes the dog to cough/hack out breath to make it open again.
I have a hound that has this condition and after multiple tests at the vets he say's that she is perfectly healthy, but she will always have this condition, the Doc says that it will get better with more humidity and she is in no discomfort, but I don't know she seems awfully uncomfortable having to hack and choke out every breath. It does get better when given honey or cough syrup but it can't be good for her to get too much of either. At first I thought she had kennel cough, but it is only one of 12 hounds that has it. I have had dogs for 30 yrs and this is a first. Anyone hear of anything similar?? And if so how did ya deal with it?
Ever hear of this?
