FC Snow Run Scottie, and his pup Snowy Mtn Trooper

Post by Richard G »

FC Snow Run Scottie still hunting at 11 yrs. old. Snowy Mtn Trooper, 15 months old, is the son of Scottie. Scottie is slowing down, But the next generation is coming on. It's tough to leave the old dog home.

Thanks Ryan 48. I have three others out of Scottie doing well. Two females and another male. I had hunted Trooper with the other male Dozer that day , but Dozer had a big abases and wasn't looking to pretty. Dozer is three. The pictures are two different days. I don't run Scottie with the other dogs any more.

Richard, nice looking dogs, I know how you feel about leaving them home when they get old, I have a female that is probably in her last year running with the pack, she is going on 10 years old and is the best snow dog I have ever had, I wish I could find tha fountain of youth to dip her in, LOL. Thanks for sharing the pics. hare

He looks pretty scruffy to me; but the hound is handsome! Richard, nice to see the old hounds still getting some work. Mac has been out quite a bit this winter too, but like Scottie and all the rest, they're best run alone at that age. It's good for the hound and brings back a lot of memories of great hunts when the were young and in their prime.

Nice looking hounds Richard. Scottie looks just like an old female I just had to bury last summer. I wish I lived closer, I would love to see him go. If you haven't already, you should try to video tape old Scottie doing what he does best before it is too late.

Thanks Bopeye, and Steve.
Steve I would like to get together next March, and try my hound up your way . I have not had the pleasure of hunting Maine yet. Young hounds should be ready to show me something by then.

Nice pics Rich.

Steve,
I know what you're saying about the old dogs, had the old man out today for 6 hours with a couple sons and a Ranger Dan bitch, he jumped one and pounded for an hour by himself before they joined in, and then didn't get much work done. But I'll tell you what, it sure brings a smile to your face when you see a dog run alone with hardly any checks at 10 years.

TomMN , Catching Scottie on a video is an exellent idea. Every time I try, I get caught up in the hunt and forget to video tape

Richard, you're welcome to hunt here any time you'd like. We've got a LOT of hare around this area but getting in the woods has gotten tough with all the snow. Got another foot Friday night and into Saturday. Most of the paper company roads are unplowed and just trying to get the truck off the pavement is nearly impossible. I recently found a video I made about 1999 with Merlin and Hannah, my old Mr T bitch that put a smile on my face but was kind of sad just the same. They were the best brace of hounds I ever hunted with. Sure is nice to hear their voices again now that they're both gone. Rob, I'm disappointed to have never had the chance to see Woody run. Wish you could come down here before the end of season.

Ryan48, I do not have any pups right now. I will be making the same cross that produce Trooper and Crystal this spring.
Out of the two litters sired by Scottie only 4 pups were registered AKC. I did not breed to sell pups, so I picked a male and a female from each litter. I did not have a clue as to what Scottie would produce. I breed to produce Snow Hounds first , and if they place in trials that's fine. Out of the 2 males, the 3 year old (Snowy Mtn Dozer) is doing very well on snow. The 15 month old ( Snowy Mtn Trooper) shows that he may be an exceptional Snow Hound like Scottie. Out of the 2 females the 3 year old (Snowy Mtn Shooting Star) is doing very well on snow, and the 15 month old (Snowy Mtn Crystal Clear) show that she may be an exceptional snow Hound. Dozer & Star are brother and sister, and Trooper & Crystal are litter mates.
