The words we use
I don't know about ya'll but I use words that I'm not sure everyone understands when I describe a dog or its actions. I was curious if other people use some of the same words or maybe use different words to describe the same things.
1- Heart....I might say something like "My old Banjo dog has a ton of heart." What I mean by that is his desire to find a rabbit and run the track. He wants to do it more than he wants to do anything else.
2- Fire or as it comes out of my mouth "far". I use this word to describe a dogs level of energy or excitement when hunting/running.
I also use the terms hot nose or cold nose. I know some people use big nose. I'm curious what are some of the words other people might use.

Shawn I have to agree with my hate for that...LOL....
We hunted a few years with a guy in Maine who said..."Where is he".......meaning the hare...lol.
Sounded like he was singing when he repeated it...over and over.....LOL...

I like hounds that can "Get hooked up" on a hare track. A term we use a lot to describe dogs that can flat get after a hare and have long drives pushing them and forcing the hare to take bigger circles. They aren't plentiful but when you find the ones that can run like they're tied to the hare you'll get some good running!
I also like dogs that "hang tough" on the hard checks. Meaning they are not quick to leave the area where the loss occurred. On days when the running is tough this kind will often keep the run alive.

We say the same things. Also "HUNT EM UP' when the dogs check in after not finding anything yet or after just finishing a track.Hardcore Kennel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:10 amLOL I talk to my dogs...."where's it at" "find'em" and "get'em outta there" are my most used

1. Grit. Not having any quit and always wanting more...
2. Tied to it. Running with minimum checks or non at all.
Talk to my dogs too while hunting. "Hunt em up" and "find em"

I'm lovin it, we almost got our own language it looks like. Grit is a good one I hadn't thought of. A nest jump makes since and that's another one it never really occurred to me that that was what was happenin. It's a good guess though that if your dogs jump one later in the day and it's a sight chase it could have been a sittin on a nest.
Great input friends I appreciate everyone's comments.
