Ive heard this line thrown around quite a bit ! which stud is getting bred to much these days ???

Referring to a stud as the "flavor of the month" kinda sounds like a negative comment. But,a stud that currently seems to be getting some attention is Arkmo's Boomer,and rightfully so,Boomer had 9 wins in the MidWest Big Male Class,he's directly out of Awful Bawlin Viagra,I plan on using him sometime in the future,I just had a litter off his half brother Arkmo's Chopper,looking forward to see how they turn out.

Depends on what your after. do you have a breeding program that the stud
would fit in or are you breeding to sell puppies

Flavor of the month ? Not sure what that means but what I do know is ,is IFC BEAVER CREEKS KICKAZ has and is being bred to pretty steady and has offspring placing in most formats .I own several out of him and plan to breed 2 or 3 more females to him .He is in central ohio also ,his offspring seem to get the great nose he has I would give his owner a call he is on the stud thread.

Your right on with that statement Fulcount, I saw many breedings made to sell puppies, that didn't work out.

Regardless of format or registry I believe it means.
That some beaglers breed to the stud that they think is most popular or that they can sell the most pups from. This is nothing new it has been happening for years. Some in the sport breed to what ever is hot on the circuit or top breeder without giving any thought to if it will help their program, is it line breeding etc. That is why there are some many hounds out there that has such mixed lines that it hard to follow a specific line.

I guess when people use the term"flavor of the month" they are usually referring to who is the big/current winner on the field trial circuit.
I wouldn't try and tell anybody who they should or should not breed to but I will tell you unequivocally that Field Trial wins and/or titles ARE NOT hereditary.History is full of top performers in the field that could not equal that performance in the stud pen as a reproducer.
Judge a stud dog by what his pups do----not what he does.He may win every trial he's ever been put in and I'd say congrats.to him.BUT, if he can't reproduce as good or better than he is than he's not really much of a "stud" hound.

......anyone ever wonder how many less than worthy females get bred to the "flavor of the month" studs hoping to make a silk purse out of a sows ear? Seems oft times to little credence is given to the quality reproducing female. I've heard a number of people say they believe the bitch plays a bigger role than the stud in reproducing quality hounds. My preference would always be that both sire and dam be quality individuals coming from several generations of above average or better hounds behind them.

I would breed to field champion flavor of the month over a no name dog anyday. Especially if it was my style. Many of you guys have the advantage of field champion studs within driving distance. Go watch the stud or his offspring run before you make your decision. Hound of the year, sire of the year to flavor of the month are not easy.

Not all fc satisfy everybody definition of a rabbit dog. I personally satisfy with midwest spo dog more because I run rabbit most of the time and also prefer close line running dog. Hare country guys would disagree spo dogs are a couple step slower. Midwest flavor of the month, sire of the year, high hound of the year fits my description of a rabbit dog. To this day, I have not seen a rough lazy dog win an spo trial.

I've said it many times with the same result Casey! I have seen titled dogs that I would NOT own and then again I have seen some NEVER put in a trail that would blow the socks off of many with a title. Some of those were not even full blooded beagle. One of the best I ever saw was terrier/beagle mix. A guy south of me raised several litters from this terrier/beagle line cross and a very high percentage of them made rabbit dogs. I didn't believe it until I bought one!
