Ohio Dog Running
Many in Ohio believe you must have a state hunting license to run dogs year round. The main man Columbus setting the District supervisors and their officers straight on the subject. You do not need to be licensed in Ohio . Anyone who believes different call Dirk Cochran at the State DNR Office . I have argued till I am blue and won't debate it further. I had to have him set our district supervisor straight and I followed up with her today and she is now agreeable. He is bringing this up with every district supervisor at the next meeting . The buck stops with Dirk Cochran. Wildlife officers for years have misinterpreted the ''pursuing game " definition when a hunting implement isn't being used. Common sense should of told everyone that the way the law was interpreted that a person with a low IQ or other learning disabilities can't enjoy listening to hounds.

I wish Ohio would establish more dog training areas across the state. With all of the oil and gas wells going in plus all of the pipelines, I have lost about all my summer running areas.

I agree 100% and the so called training areas have the lowest game populations at least my area does.

Re: Ohio Dog Running
The closest training area to me is north of Zanesville. That would be close to a 3-4 hours round trip. I called the ODNR and they said they had no plans of opening any training areas in southeastern Ohio. I'm very frustrated about my limited areas to run dogs. Between oil, gas, pipelines, and the state, I'm not getting to enjoy my dogs. I went to my favorite summer spot near Barnesville and a security guard for the oil and gas people tried to run me off public ground.

Yes and for a lot of folks that only run public ground this time of year is hard because you cant run state lands from May 1st through August 31 except for those training areas. Luckily or unluckily I guess the public land close around here is managed for duck and deer hunters and has hardly any rabbits but we still have access to enough private lands to keep the dogs after the rabbits.

Re: Ohio Dog Running
If they would now allow hunting in the training areas it wouldn't be too bad. I usually don't have too much trouble getting a rabbit up, but after the small game season starts and they release pheasants, it's not worth it. Maybe I just need a better jump dog
