Question about doubling up on Branko's Jackpot

Post by Bringem back kennels »

I am contemplating breeding a young female I have to colonel. She has outstanding hunt, good foot, good mouth, & brains.
I have heard it said Jack could be over competitive at times. I've heard too much of certain dogs hurt you some but, was wondering
some good or bad about this particular dog? Maybe it's far enough back it won't matter...I don't know.
Here is what it would look like if this helps.

Jackpot was a very competitive hound; didn't swing to get the front, but would overrun the turns a lot. He had as much natural foot speed as any hound I've seen pound for pound, but natural foot speed does not always translate to "rabbit running foot". He had never ran a cottontail until he was 4 or 5 years old though, but he adjusted enough to end up with an impressive trial record in the Mid-West & also winning the AKC Large Pack Nationals. Jackpot's pups that I saw were hard hitting, but not over competitive enough to be a problem. They were line runners. The certain trait I always thought Jackpot put in his pups was hunt. He was a really hard hunting dog & was a great producer, but due to problems concerning his ownership, wasn't bred very much at all. I think he would have been as well respected as any Branko stud if he had got the chance. I wouldn't worry about your cross producing over competitive hounds. They should have hunt & Colonel may end up being Prime Time's best producing male just going on the talent the young dogs have that I've see so far by him. I may have to eat my words, but I doubt it.
That is a nice looking cross. FC Bullseye & FC Hubert's Tori were fantastic hounds. I also saw judged Badger & Luke; both were great hounds. I also like the breeding of Runner's dam, Watch Me Sizzle. If she was half as good as Moon Pie then she was a good one. Pie was most likely the best dog (running wise) in that pedigree in my opinion. Amazing hound! Good luck.
