Winter Cottontail Video

Post by JCM »

This is a video of Logan Elm Beagles running cottontail on February 17, 2015. The temperature was about 8 when we started with a couple of inches of snow.

Nice vid JCM, reminds me of late fall hare hunting before they turn white around here...sometimes we feel bad for them cuz they are just too easy to see against the white background.....it makes some great action :D

A couple looked pretty good, a couple didn't. There's no hiding, good or bad when you shoot a video, even when you wish they would.

Very impressive pack and cottontail chase.
It was obvious in the portion that we saw that the Bawl mouth and the Squeal mouth were doing most of the work.
What is their name and breeding? It's such a pleasure to see dogs that can both drive in good conditions and slow down and work when necessary. I love their independence when searching for the lost line.l

Thanks Newt! All of the dogs in the video are related. Five of them are out of Logan Elm Neal and one is a grandson. The grandson is Butcher, the black dog that was rougher than the others. He has run well all winter but he sure didn't run up to par in these conditions. It's interesting how dominate dogs in this pack change based on the conditions.

You can find information on them at http://www.loganelmbeagles.com/p/logan-elm-dogs.html. The dogs running were Chip, Tony, Dennis, Gypsy, Village Girl, and Butcher.

Nice running. Like others said , one or two dogs were doing most of the work. The rest need to be run with out the lead dogs do that they can get more running. But they may just be young dogs. The squall mouth dog looked good though.... Good running to you.....dh

Thanks for the kind comments about the website. Keeping a blog of running is already interesting for me to be able to look back. If you haven't seen it, you can check it out at Logan Elm Beagles.

For anyone that hasn't videoed their dogs, I would highly recommend giving it a try. It's the best thing I have ever seen to cause a check and make dogs look bad. It never fails that when you get the camera on the pack, they will loose the track, dogs will bark around, dogs will swing, anything that can go wrong does. A dog can look good for two hours and as soon as you get the camera on it, it will stink it up and aggravate you to no end. It never fails. Once in a great while though, you will get a little film of a dog or two looking good.
