Nice job Smitty. How do those things run as my neighbor said he thought they were running one last night on my property. I didn't know there were much of any left here but he says the neighbor on the next mile road behind me has them on trail cams. I'll bet they are some rabbit eating machines.

We run coyotes, cat, fox and bear with the same dogs. They run like a big hare. Once up the dogs are tied to them pretty good but getting them cold trailed up takes the most seasoned of dogs. I can tell you this I have been hunting cats for 6 years in Michigan and they have eluded me to this point. In my opinion they are one of the toughest animals in our states to kill. They are a lot of fun to hunt and that white walker in the middle of that picture is a special hound. My red male got in on the chase for the last mile or so before the kill. Was a great hunt.

OUR RULE OF THUMB
10 DOGS THAT RUN COYOTE LEAVES YOU WITH
6 DOGS THAT RUN BEAR WITH HOPEFULLY 1-2 DOGS THAT CAN START LEAVES YOU WITH
MAYBE 1 CAT DOG
THE FEWER DOGS YOU PUT DOWN ON CATS THE BETTER YOUR ODDS ARE TO GET A TREE.

NICE PIC OF A SMALL CAT, SUCH A COOL ANIMAL BUT THEY ARE HARE KILLING MACHINES. :)

We got a good number of them around here, they mess up the coonhunting something ferrous too! The hounds will tree and when you about get to the tree the cat will see your lights coming and make a jump to run another mile.
Most all the trailcam pictures show them carrying a squirrel in their mouths at night. We don't have a season so they're just another worthless cat competing with us for the game we enjoy.

I agree with the top part of this... A good cat dog is very difficult to find. This cat is not a small cat for our area. This is an average sized Tom cat for sure for our area. He has a real good frame on him very long and lanky. He had been caught in trap sometime this year missing three back toes and had a chunk out of foot. The muscle structure on that leg was noticeably different than the other hind leg. He also had a mouth full of quills. The second dog in from the left it isn't her first cat rodeo. The redtick got put in just before the kill and did a decent job for a younger dog. The other dog was not in the race at all.

Will a bobcat stop to fight or are they treed?

From what I've been told a good share of them are shot on the ground ahead of the dogs. They are difficult to keep in a tree as they will bail.

Sounds like a miserable cat, chunk out of foot and quills in the mouth. Nice you could put him to sleep. How much cold trailing did she have to do before jump?

A lot of cold trailing..... Truth be told we tried to catch her at the road crossing right before she jumped it because we were doubting her but she'd have none of it. The snow was all sugar snow and caving in on the tracks could barely tell what you were running. We know better than to doubt her. She is a once in a life time hound. We will never own one as good again. She jumps and runs stuff to the gun. Some cats that don't want to tree will stop and fight, some will tree and some will just run. This one was shot in front of the dog very similar to a rabbit hunt. I got my redtick pup in right after it was jumped and he did a real nice job with her.
