It doesn't matter how the pup is bred, who is selling it, or anything else for that matter, no one can guarantee a pup will be great! All a breeder can do is stack the deck in their favor to get good pups! Breeding is not an exact science! You make the best attempt and hope for the best! When you buy a pup from any cross you are taking a chance on it! If you don't want to pay the price then don't buy the pup! Don't knock a man for the price of his pups! If you think it is easy to breed and raise pups then you have another thing coming! It's not easy or cheap! And yes I know from experience. Just ask anyone who does it on a regular basis and they will tell you the same thing. $300 to $400 is not much for what a man has tied up in a pup by the time it is 8 weeks old, and more than that if it's any older. Don't mean to tick anyone off but that's just the facts.

How much dose one feel he needs to make off a pup. When one buys a pup from me I give a garentee. I garentee it will run if they put it in the woods. If not the next pups will only cost them shots/wormer and one bag of feed.. this is the garentee I run. I can't say they will all come out to be world beaters. I have breed enough to no that raising pups dose not cost a fortune. How many other breeders run this type of garentee if any at all

If the pup dont work out why make them pay for shots or even yet a bag of feed? I mean being the breeder that you are that gives a guarantee or garentee, however ya wanna spell it. You started this thread by asking a question and giving your opinion and asking for others opinions but all you seem to wanna do is bash everyone who responds. Have fun.

No not bashing like um fast just was asking where others find there value in a pup.too me it is in the parents and how they run and are proven as rabbit dogs if there is a spelling error it casuse I am talking to my phone it spells for me.. why give a guarantee because it's better than what most breeders will do.. somethings better then nothing right? Whats yours? Nothing exactly.

My apologies.......... The few times we breed a female, pups usually sell for $125 with no papers, advertise them in local paper for people to have for pets. They go quick. I did that even when i owned Cryons Bo Diddley when i bred him to a female of mine. We have our hounds for our own enjoyment and dont care much for advertising and going thru hassles of reserving males or females and guys backing out. Just place a ad and watch them go. Although with my stock i have now i may advertise pups for $400 on here and $125 in local paper. 1st come 1st serve.

IMO its a crap shoot and most of my best ones came out of one certain female years ago. Two sisters from same litter, sister (A) great jump dog, check dog, line dog, pleasure to gun over produced nothing. Her sister (B) hard hunting dog but hardly jumped rabbits, fair check hound but good line hound when bred always produced good ones. Never a dud in the litter. Bred dog (A) 3x and never got anything but dog (B) good ones in all 4 litters. The sister that wasnt that great of a hound reproduced, the good one not at all. Also had a male once no matter what he was bred to ya got rabbit dogs, definite producer. Currently, ....... we just buy good ones, its a lot easier.

I got that guarantee 20 yr ago from Mike Claybaugh when I got my pups, it showed me he had alot of faith in his breeding and was willing to back it up. When someone sets a good example for you that you feel is commendable, you try to follow it and treat others the same way. That's what I've tried to do.
It made me feel like he was a fair and responsible breeder. Knowing there are always the chance of exceptions and failures, he took on the weight of holding the hounds and himself accountable for producing rabbitdawgs. Peaches and Ivory did not disappoint either one of us I'm happy to say.

If you want to know how successful a breeding was, try to buy back the pups 1 year later. If your buying them back for puppy price it didn't go very well. If you need to take a loan out at the bank odd are it was a good cross.
