A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I saw a poll on here asking about the "Best"Branko dog . Only one person said Ali Baba. The reason I am asking this question is because I recently purchased a dog directly out of Ali Baba. He is a 15" male and is a litter mate to FC Branko's Hunkleberry Hound. I need your thoughts (good or bad) on ALi Baba. Another question I have is any info on my dogs dame. Branko's Rhapsody in Blue. She is dirctly out of Heli Prop and Branko's Miss Muffet. I see alot of good feed back on this board and I am trying to find some good feed back/ history on Ali Baba and Rhapsody. I will appriciate all the info I can get. I also want to thank Dean Stowell for selling Branko's Baba Mikey to me. Thanks everybody and keep those bunnies on the run!

I think a lot of people avoided that post to avoid conflict. Everyone has thier own likes and dislikes. With out a doubt, if would be hard to say which dog was the best to come out of Branko's kennel. They have definitly produced some great hounds. But it is easy to figure that Heli-Prop and Ali-baba are always at the forefront on these topics. With Heli-Prop you seemed to get level headed and smooth pups and with Ali-Baba you got grit, hart, and enough desire for 3 dogs. Obviously when the two were crossed, someone always hit paydirt. Both lived long lives and ran well into thier teens ( 14 years old but I could be wrong ). They both demonstrated the qualities that it takes to rise above the competition and always leave a good impression on everyone that watched them run. But what really separated them from the competition was that they could get it done in SPO and Large pack and place consitantly. Somehting that is lacking in most champions today. Not all pups will be great and they all can't grow up to be champions, but you will be hard pressed to find any better dogs who's traits are still seen 3, 4, and even 5 generations later. Personally, I'm an Ali-Baba fan. I own only 1 dog that doesn't have a real good dose of his blood in them. It's that, I'LL KILL OVER DEAD BEFORE IQUITE mentality that I appreciate so much.
Once upon a time, a man asked a girl " Will you marry me?" The girl said " NO." and the guy lived happily ever after and ran his dogs as much as he wanted to.
I watched Ali BaBa run 4 times at Branko's and he was super hound. He had the best sprung ribs I have ever seen on a hound. Once I remenber he was 12 or 13 and after running all day Marko, Branko's son had to run Ali BaBa down to catch him ,he was running very good for his age.
I have a direct son of Ali-baba that I like really well also. He has the qualities that Mr. Spall had mentioned. and seems my male is producing good so far with his first litter.

Thanks guys (chris, randy jack and j.c) for your input and info. Chris, I feel the same way about the post and it causing conflict. Branko has produced alot of nice hounds and Ali-Baba was one of MANY. I am not a big beagle breeder. I am your average beagler who has 3 dogs and I never breed unless for myself. I hope some one can tell me about Branko's Rhapsody in Blue. I was told she has some FC out and about but I never hear her name. Hopefully some one can help me with all you noligable beaglers on this board. Thanks agian and Beagle on !

Alibaba was one in a million I ran this dog many times about a year
before he died ,and he would still beat most of the young dogs on the
trialing circut .
A very good dog,I had Ali Baba at my kennel for 6 mo Branko sent him to me to show and make a duel Ch however at the time I couldn't make many shows so he didn't get his show Ch.However I ran him often and he was a great hound.
I have seen most of Branko's recent hounds run in the last fifteen or more years. I saw both Heli-Prop and Ali-Baba. Alot of the guys out here in Michigan liked Prop better, said he was cleaner. Me, I liked Baba, he was the kind of hound that made the hair stand up on the back of your neck when you watched him run. He could completely dominate with speed and stamina, yet he could also dig out a tough check and explode out of it like he was shot out of a cannon. He could get a little rough, but when I saw him he was traveling all over the country by plane, vehicle and who knows what, breeding females before and after the trial, with different handlers and environments and still winning and placing most every trial. He had it all, brains, ability, and the best conformation I've ever seen on a 13" male. I bred to him and most of my hounds carry his blood. In my opinion, he was Branko's best.
