Re: coyote trapping
Side note here, I used 1 1/2" traps here in Kansas. A man could always double trap set and catch 2 feet instead of 1. I did this on a couple of trap -wise coyotes. Used a wet set in a creek bed, and did well. I've had Duke 1 1/2" double coil traps hold coyote, coon, bobcat, and otter. Could try a couple of different things before investing in new equipment. Just my two cents.

Lightning, it's been a while since I've trapped. What are offset jaws. Where's a good place to get traps and lure around Ohio? What do you guys use for lure?LightningBeagles wrote:I trapped many coyotes in ohio. 1 3/4 to #2 with offset jaws. 6 to 8 inch chain. Double staked. Don't hardly ever lose one. Also can buy beefed up traps with laminated jaws and welded d rings on the bottom of trap. Coyotes can due some serious damage to traps. Good luck with the canines

Re: coyote trapping
Like lone beagle said set traps 2 close then a few feet 2 more catch in front and back foot they stay put. Take a small limb lay between two sets so they step over get caught by front they jump and caught by back foot also

Check your state laws! Traps here in ky must be 10 ft apart...

Re: coyote trapping
#3 or #4 with 4 springs is a far superior trap for coyote. I lost more than I caught with #2's. Coyote trapping is too much time and effort not to be working with the right size trap. The above suggestions will help, but the right trap will secure the catch!
Good luck, I hope you get them all!

I seen this guys videos but herd him say he is using #3
Re: coyote trapping
I really don't like to stake my yote traps. I've used 1.75 offset jaws with 3ft chains attached to rebar drags. I use double swivels also. Caught a lot of yotes and cats with that setup. They usually head for thick cover and hang up not far from the set although I had one travel cross country we finally found in a culvert.

Re: coyote trapping
I think drags are only illegal in using snares. I don't see anything in the rule book about traps.
