The bite was too small to be a coyote. Running coyote with hounds over the last 20 years I have seen plenty of coyote bites and this was too small for even an adult. The punctures were large and wide apart. We figured it was a young wolf that luckily missed it's mark.
There are wolves on the plains that have been seen and heard by the locals who deer hunt the plains. wolves have also been seen crossing the quarry haul road on the west end of the Island.

Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
Where are all the patch field champions? We can talk real facts not theory

Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
IF you don`t know, u ain`t to sharp,99.9% don`t like PATCH HOUNDS. I have field trialed some and seen dogs GIVEN TITLES THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOT ALONG WITH THE BUDDIE JUDGE`S, no it isn`t all like that but enough that I quit going to trials and wouldn`t have a pen full of field trial champions if they were given to me, JMHOO. I hope I never see the for sale sections full of PATCH puppies as like many other breeds.
Bring your field champion`s down here and run with my PATCH HOUNDS. You really would have a bad taste in your mouth when you left.
chappy why don`t u come here, ya know I told you I would walk you into my place once you got to Atlanta. Remember the last time you ran your mouth. and u got back on here under another aka.
Come Run

Why don't people like patch hounds?
Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
I`m outa here on this. If it took a year for me to explain it to you, it would be wasted effort, because you don`t have the capacity to comprehend or intellect to understand. I will be in Michigan after the first of the year so we could sit face to face if you want. You know like this spring when I was up there yote hunting and running rabbits on Topith RD. (YOU NEVER SHOWED UP)??????
Please come to my Swamp I`ll not let you step in deep water, I hear your pretty small.

you don't even know who your talking to. I figured out a long time ago. that when a houndsmen attacks a persons character or intelligence. This is just a good cover for LACK OF DOG POWER. No matter how stupid one leads you to believe he is. Just remember if you believe it. he is in control of the illusion at which you see..
I totally understand that If there is that much wrong with the dogs that I might not comprehend everything wrong with them due too me falling asleep out of boredom...
Good job at attacking character but you just avoided a simple question. Who has the small brain capasity..
When u make it up this way look me up I will show you dog power... if the snow is too deep for a old fossial thats set in his ways maybe I can take you hand and show you the light.

Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
You might get better results from your hounds on a different feed or raw diet good luck running .

Got be very selective, put them in the brush every opportunity you have and EXPOSE them to the situations you expect them to perform in.
Then cull from there.....they don't have it and they have to leave....harsh part of getting a quality group who each individual can do it all on a regular basis.
Always be critical, you won't raise the bar if you are not.
Good luck!
With no disrespect....but the best hounds you have seen may not really even be in the same area with you....not the ones in the holler down the road or ole John's dogs out the way....you really really have to see it to be clear if you want it or not.
getting humbled by hounds better than yours can vastly change your opinion of "top" quality.
After reading this post several times I some what assumed it's reffering to my original comment sense it directly he followed and mimicked which is fine but would like to explain a couple things. I never said they were junk or culls but had what I call average hunt, the original poster said extreme. These dogs didn't have extreme by any ones standard. They ran nice and would go jump there own rabbit, I've killed rabbits over all 3 of them solo. That don't mean ther rockstarts by any means. I personally drove to west Virginia and Kentucky to get them so it wasn't no watered down good ole boys crap. I know there isn't any akc field champions under my name and only a couple lp champions, and standing out there in my kennel as I type I only have one out of 7 that can and will make fc. I've ran with them and have friends that have made them. One in particular " 15" male" beat some the best 15" males on this boards stud page but I'm not here to ride on his fame. You can only be humbled if your not kennel blind, at the same time if your star struck by some ones success you will never see the faults with there hounds. I truly believe even thought we like differnt lines of hounds are measuring sticks look a lot alike. And your right never count ole John out until you've seen for your self, many a time there's been a no name dog show up and absolutely dominate.

Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
My comments were NOT directed at any one line. I am talking of ALL lines as I said. Nor were they to mimick a comment by someone.
When you see what you like you then need to find the highest quality within that line. If you don't do that you are simply allowing for more average down the road...imo.
No guarantees in any of these dogs and I have sampled MANY, MANY hounds of various genetics to come to the assumption that there are CULLS in EVERY line.....
If you consider an average dog less than a cull you are different than I am.....just my opinions.....
Extreme to many is not extreme to those that may have really seen extreme....again...just my take.
Endurance is BRED into hounds....conditioning can simply fine tune that as well as there mind.

Well said bc if ya never been to the top of the mountain you can't explain the view.

Re: EXTREME STAMINA??
Sparky and Eddy hit the nail on the head! Awful Bawlin, Striker, Shaker, ThreeJays Jack's, and Blue NInja!
Recoil has the best stamina I have ever seen in a dog! He has no quit and will jump rabbits on the way back to the truck when the other dogs have given out!
It takes a tough dog to handle these mountains here in Eastern Ky and keep going!
Dave Wireman's Striker and Jiggs bred male is just as tough and he's 9 years old!
You guys are missing out not breeding to him. He is one impressive dog at 9 years old. Would've loved to have seen him in his prime!
You just can't beat these lines for stamina!
