Pro Plan

Post by roughtimber »

Now I understand that there is already 1,000 topics about this on here already, so I don't want to get in a huge debate over which dog food is the best, because I know everyone has their opinions. However regarding puppy food I want the best I can get for my pups and after literally 100s of posts I read I keep seeing Purina Pro Plan being brought up consistently. So I want to give it a shot. So my question to you guys is this. Which bag do you guys actually get for your pups? I went to the local Rural King and there is 10 different types from sport, performance, focus etc.. So which pro plan for puppies do you guys get? Also once they're old enough what type of food do you transition to after the puppy food? Thanks everyone.

I've been real happy with the shredded chicken and rice. Before I made my decision I made sure that my local store had both the puppy AND the adult formula. It made for an easy transition when I switched them over to the adult formula.

We fed diamond for years and always thought there was no better dog food until bout 8 months ago we switched to Purina pro plan in the black and purple bag we really like it we noticed a big difference in the level of energy all there coats are shiny we have raised 2 litters of pups on it they loved it kept them shiny and healthy and full we are very pleased with it and u don't have to feed as much of it as it is a little more expensive but it is well worth it in my opinion

The higher you go up the dog food latter the better your dogs will do. The X factor is how much are you willing to pay. When doing your cost analysis be sure to figure in how much you need to feed to keep a dog. If your feeding 1.5 or 2 times the food it may be costing you more for lower quality food with twice the waste.

It's fascinating to me that the guy paying $15 a bag and the guy paying $75 a bag will both tell you they are getting the best value.

I have been feeding it for a month now and I can tell you it is well worth it to me. I usually run 6 days a week and the dogs empty out in the field and no mess to clean up at home. The dogs are looking great and you have to feed very little of it. The stools are solid unlike the other feed I have tried them on.

Purina Pro Plan Focus Chicken & Rice, or If you want more weight on them mix with the Purina Pro Plan Sport. Price varies greatly from store to store. I've seen it as high as $48 and as low as $33. So if you don't like the price in one place keep looking..

Ok thanks for everyone's replies. I just picked up some of the pro plan focus (blue package) puppy chicken and rice up at rural king. I think I paid right at $40 for the larger bag. Going by weight for price it was actually cheaper than what I was originally feeding. I was feeding IAMs puppy for $20 for a 15# bag. I hope this works as good as everyone says. Now when the pups around a year old which type does you guys transition too? One of you mentioned there was a chicken and rice focus but all I seen was for dogs over 50 pounds. Thanks again.

I have fed pro plan focus before and really liked it. The kibble was small and their stool was firm, not runny.

I feed pups Pro Plan Focus...chicken and rice.

I keep them on it until about 8 months or so....I then go to Performance 30/20 year round.

I have had great success with this....hounds look great..regular hard stools...great energy....exceptional coats.

I do supplement the pups regularly with Cod liver oil and Nupro.....really, really makes them grow out nice with exceptional structure and muscle.
Works for me...good luck!!
