Dog Food?????

I talked to the guy from Black Gold and according to him B.G. is better food than Eukanuba. Black Gold unfortunately is getting priceyand to buy it cheap you have to buy 80 bags at a time and then you still pay$15.25 plus tax(I think) . We talked to some people who use the Pride 26/18 and they love it. The one guy feeds his dogs 1 cup a day. I have a pitbull also and you know they are prone to skin conditions. I pay $33 a bag for Nutro Lamb and Rice. I hope she does well on the pride because I will be saving big. My friend is feeding the Pride and he is getting good results so far. After a couple of months I will post back on this topic with my final analysis(sound like a professor dont I) MERV
P.S. Purina Hi Pro is a No No-Too much yellow poop!

I fed Pride for over a year. I liked it very well until I started getting runny stool. I have one female that when I switched her from the puppy formula of Pride to the 26/18 Pride, she got runny stool and kept it until I switched her to Diamond, then her stool firmed up and problem was over. I recently tried the Pride 24/20 and didnt care much for it. The 24/20 feed is tiny, small bits and whew, when the dogs done their business and I was close, it would run me off.....pheewhew......you talk about a stink, LOL. Why did Diamond have to change when they had a good thing going? Makes no sense!

I thought that Purina and Eukanuba were both bought out by General Mills? We have been feeding Diamond Green bag for over two years now and have just started noticing a difference in the dogs condition and stool. The stools were dark and firm and now it's brown and soft. I called our local feed store and ask them about price on three feeds: Diamond Green $18.35/55lbs Hi Standard $18.35/50lbs BG $18.75/50lbs I heard that the quality had gone down on the feeds when GM bought them and that when a feed was tageted towards the general pet owner population it usually went down to be competitive.

I sent an e-mail to Diamond Pet foods explaining the problems that a lot of us were having with their product. I asked if it could be a manufacturing problem such as: lower grade raw material, a glitch in one of their manufacturing processes or maybe they had to temporarily change the formula due to costs or an inability to get one of their ingredients from their regular supplier and are being forced to use a different one. I asked that they let me know if this could be the problem and if it is will it be temporary. I said if it was temporary I would continue with them, but if this will be their new specs. for the product, that I would be forced to seek another brand. I also informed them that no reply would mean that they plan on staying with the status quo which would also be grounds to change brands.
Just for the kicker, I said I would inform the beagle boards that I go to of my findings. If they didn't let us know something that they had the potential to lose a lot of business from the beagle community.
I said all of this repectfully, so as not to come across as threatening them, but I did want them to know that there seems to be a problem.
The rest of you that are having problems with Diamond, why don't you send them an e-mail as well. One voice doesn't make much difference to a big company, but many can be heard a lot more effectively.

Right now I'm feeding Diamond 24/20. It seems to me that the stools are increasing as a few of you have mentioned. I've fed Purina Dog Chow, liked it but when they changed the weight circle rebates I stopped due to cost. I then went to Pride and as mentioned before it stunk up the whole neighborhood. Just this past summer I tried PZAZZ and it was the best feed I have ever used and the price was very reasonable. The dealer I was getting the PZAZZ from suddenly stopped selling dog food and I could not find it anywhere. The PZAZZ dog food did not stink and after an hour or so the stool turned white and all dried up. If anyone knows where PZAZZ is sold around the Roxboro/Durham North Carolina area please reply because I'll drive some distance to get that dog food again.
The price of Black Gold varies with its availability or unavailability to certain areas. John Allen will tell you himself he needs to get more distributers in more areas of the country. Where there are high-volume distributors, the cost of a 50lb bag of 26/18 is usually in the neighborhood of $16.00.
I believe he's working on getting Black Gold to a wider market, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it available in more areas soon.

Depending on how many dogs you have. I feed Eukanuba Duo Energy or Premium Performance. It has a 30%protein-20%fat, this is high for each and you dont need to feed as much food in the bowl. The ingredients are Chicken ,then Chicken By Product. The 1st two ingredients are the most important. I only feed my dogs this food when I am trialing or during hunting season during winter months. Then I switch to the maintenance formula which is still better than most others brands High Performance brands. It is expensive but I only keep 4 dogs and this allows me too feed them this brand.Stool samples are dark and hard and easy to clean..It is very highly digestable and easy on the dogs digestive systems and their coats are thick and strong.

I fed Diamond 24/20 (High Energy--maroon bag)for over a year. About 4 months ago, my dogs started loosing weight, and looking real bad. I increased the amount of food, and the only difference I noticed was the increased waste. The dogs still looked very skinny, just alot more crap to clean up.
I switched to Diamond 26/18 (Adult Premium--green bag) about 2 months ago, and they put their weight back on, and have even more energy. When I switched them, every dog started shedding real bad, alot more than they would have in the hot summer time. Remember, it is cold outside. I have never had this happen before, when switching dog food. Now they have quit shedding, but their coats are as dry as powder. Nothing at all slick about them, and so dry, their hair almost looks dusty.
I am going to look for a different brand of dog food, because lately it seems Diamond has swept quality out the door, in ALL their formulas. I have heard alot of others complain about the 24/20 lately, and they have switched to other formulas, and other brand names as well.
I deworm every dog in the kennel, on a routine basis, and yes, that includes tape worms also. I don't think worms had anything to do with the weight loss. Another thing that supports this theory, is when I started feeding 26/18, the dogs started gaining weight right then.
Diamond had a great thing going. I wish they had left it alone. From the talk I've heard, if they don't fix what they messed up, looks like Diamond will be selling ALOT less dog food.

I just did a search and then went to Diamond's web page.I sent them a question as to formula problems - changes.(Maybe a lot of us should do like wise, squeaky wheel gets the lube) I've seen the same as others here stated and I've always been a big Diamond fan.Don't like what I've seen in the last three - four bags.
What about Joy dog food.I use to feed it and it was good food in years past ???
Question No. two :) What about Tops Dog food.I hear a lot of people at trials here in Tn that feed it.
