You right I guess we do not have to worry about 25 degree temps in the morning. And one other thought southern dogs are use to extremely hot weather they get ran most all year.

Under 25 degrees? I know of one reggie male that can tear up a rabbit on snow in well below freezing temps. His first rabbit over the gun was at 10 months old at 15 degrees. Had other dogs work the trail and walk away. He came up to the same trail, opened up and jumped the rabbit the other dogs passed on. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

So I assume you have first hand experience with this or are you just blowing holes in the ground like always?

Reggie is like Wal-Mart. He started out small. Now he's huge and everywhere. Some can stand to go to one, some can't live without it.

Last I checked, this post was on Greenwells Reggie. The hound hisself. No, I never seen him run, but have talked many times to his past owner. From what I gather, the hound hisself was outstanding. Proven hisself under the gun, in multiple formats, on cottontails and hares, and a reproducer. That's pretty good resume.

Btw, we shop at wal mart quite regularly. Lol!

I have had hounds directly out of some dogs that have done well in the north. Hounds like Green Bay Shooter, Stoney Hills Gator, Trails, FC Townlines Honey Bea, Bugle Boy, Cedar Beck Oliver, Farriers Wrangler, and Deer Lake Oreo just to name what comes to the top of my head. Some were very nice hounds but the best snow and cold hound I have ever owned was right off of Reggie. She was also the best female I have ever put a collar on. Not taking anthing away from the other sires or dams I mentioned. All great hounds that can produce.

IF you been exposed to high level Reggie dogs then you can comment on those. If you haven't you can also comment on those as well????

Isn't that what the post was about, a question??? I have seen a few Reggie dogs, they were mouthy(check area barking), had average foot, average hunt, and average noses......same could be said for any dog that has been bred several times. You will get culls in all, by percentages alone, there should be MORE top Reggie hounds than any other hound today( MORE BREEDINGS)If that ends up being the case I am happy for Reggie's owner and for those that bred to him. His statistics SHOULD be the highest, as Better Beagling shows.....he has the most pups on the ground.

I have owned alot of Shooter dogs, MANY were very average as well....just to put it in perspective....it is ALL relative to how many you have evaluated.

If I evaluated 4 Reggie/and or Shooter(just an example) dogs and came to the conclusion I like them, you are very, very lucky to have found that out so early on. I will not pass judgement on Reggie until I see some good hounds out of him. I haven't seen that yet.....so....to say what I have seen is what this post was started about, correct????????

Don't post much, but figured I'de share on this topic. Right now, I own 2 Reggie males; Reggie/Blue Iris & Reggie/Manifest Destiny.
For perspective, I also have a Shooter/Shoreacres Shaker Dinah female, a Howard's Bandit/Destiny female. Plus a young Red River Runner male and a older male out of Maravic's Blue Barry/ Thirty Ought Six Flybye.
Back to Reggie: both Reggie males are as nice of a hound as you could want.
The Blue Iris male has a grubby, thorough style hunt, he is a jump dog, is accurate on the line n honest with his mouth, not an extra bark at all. He is 7, I've owned him for at least 6 of those n he''s been like that since day 1. Good foot, his only downfall is a soft mouth that can get drowned out in a pack.
The Destiny male has real good hunt, different faster n wider. He is extremely accurate on the line, will make the really hard turns on the run, and again, uses his mouth right; no extra barks. He is a step slower, not slow by any means, but will make the pack pay for overruns. Great voice that carries well. Both dogs r smart, handle great, r easy keepers and account for their game.
I owned one other Reggie dog, she didn't make the cut; I didn't like how she handled and occasionally she would throw in a off bark or 2.
The 2 Reggie males r the most rounded of the bunch. These aren't dogs I've just seen run a few times, I've fed them, cared for them n hunted them day in n out. Same dogs each time out. Neither has a title, both r good enough to have some in different formats. There are dogs like this out there out that will never show up in the %'s often quoted on here.

So why is it that the stud dog is always the one that is seen as worthless if the pups don't turn out? The female bred to him is equally as important or more so in my book.

As far as running at 25° goes some of us hunt in a T-shirt and sneakers at those temps. Heck those are summer temps! That's when guys up my way break out the hot nosed dogs to run.!!:)

Don't know about the greatest to ever hit the woods through one fine hound. I have had the privilege of judging Reggie on more then one occasion and was always on the line never too far out of the check area and also had the privilege of running against him several times at the big hunts and always coming up on the short end of the stick!!! One fine hound!!!
