Re: Kennel names
You can register your kennel name with A.K.C. for a fee and that then gives you exclusive right to use it and others can not use it unless you the breeder give your permission to do so, when you name your dog that you got from them.Others can not name their dogs "Branko" unless he gives you permission. When you buy a pup from Branko the prefix is always "Branko" and then whatever else you want.
You may have two dogs that you got from Branko and breed them but you can not register them A.K.C. using "Branko" as the prefix----unless Branko gives you permission [ there is a place for this on the reg. form ].And just because Branko bred both of those dogs does by no means mean that he himself would have ever made that cross that you are making.
Branko is a full time breeder that keeps multiple studs and breeding females. He also has unlimited running pens, grounds and time to train, run and assess his dogs throughout their developement, trialing careers and gun seasons. He makes his crosses based on what HE sees, has had success with in the past, their genetic background/pedigrees,gut instincts, etc.
When you make the decision to acquire a "Branko" dog from HIM what you are buying is HIS years of experience, knowledge, breeding, hunting and trialing those dogs and the many past generations they have come from.In my humble opinion I'd say that a true "Branko" dog is only one that HE made the decision to breed/produce.
As to the many others it would be more accurate to state that they carry "Branko" blood or carry a lot of Branko's breeding.
I get a kick out of seeing ads on this board that will state "Branko" pups for sale or "Old Time Branko Blood" and then when you look at the accompanying pedigree you don't see the name Branko until 2- 3 generations back or more. What's that all about? Must be a heck of a burden for Branko to have so many folks trying to ride his coat tails all the time........LOL.

Right on Dana! If you have a "Branko" dog, it came directly from Manitoba. You can have a "Branko bred" dog, or pups, with Branko in the ped. You can break it down further. For example I like to linebreed Maravics Blue Ninja. We all know his pedigree and story, but I try to center on him and his sisters. However it is getting harder to focus on it due to the limited amount of pups he sired. So cross "Branko" bred dogs with other outcrosses. Again when I say outcross, it may be a misnomer, i.e. look at Haunted Hill Shaker's ped, yep there is quite a bit of Branko in there, as well as Striker, albeit a little less. I too Dana, love to see the "old blood Branko" advertisement. What does that mean? Old dogs die and you're left with young dogs, of course linebred on the "old blood". Pretty hard keep the old blood going for 20yrs isn't it? Doesn't it have to get "younger"? To each his own, when I write "Branko bred" pups or linebred Blue Ninja bred, you can bet you will see it in a 3gen ped, several times. But that is just me, I have been lucky enough to have had several directly off Ninja and several very good "Branko" dogs, yes right from Manitoba! Good luck to all with all your pups...whatever you want to call them!! Mark Trudell

Re: Kennel names
I concur with shady and mark both. I have seen people post dogs for sale and say there out (pine mt Chester ) and when you look at the ped, he's there but like 4-5 gen back, and after a while the same dog be reposted but next time out of (turbo)!
Maybe I'm being to picky when looking at a ped, but I guess it goes with me being picky about my dogs. LOL!

Re: Kennel names
To me I don’t care what the dog is out of I want to see the total pedigree, I still want to see both parents run or get opinions of guys I can trust to see if it’s what I am looking for in a dog. I would say a dog is heavy Branko breeding, or it goes back to Branko. We all know Branko has done well and his name says it and a lot of people do use it very loosely.

Re: Kennel names
You see it all the time with any line of dogs. Ads for pups that are "FC insert name here" bred . When that dog is three or four gen back. I know you are mainly talking kennel names but is about the same.
Re: Kennel names
I use the Branko name when referring to some of my hounds that's true, but when you look at a pedigree you will see it in several places not just one or two! Also when I say old Branko blood, I am referring to AliBaba, Copper Boy, Anna's Ann, Close Call Girl, etc. I know that alot of people will see Branko's kennel name once in 5 generations and call it a Branko bred dog and I don't agree with that. I have 3 heavy Branko bred dogs in my kennels as well as the heavy Shaker and Awful Bawlin bred dogs none of which carry anyone else's kennel name. I am not trying to ride anyone's coat tails by no means! I just want to continue the style of dogs that they have produces from their kennels. Branko, John Monkman, and Jack Blum are just a few of the ones that I admire greatly for having the patience and putting in the time and work to further the breed as they have! I am thankful for what they have done as well as many others who have done wonders for the breed! We could name great beaglers all day and their kennel names but what we need to do is continue their work! I hope I didn't offend anyone, just my honest opinions on the matter!

Re: Kennel names
Right on pcable. What I am saying is Anna's Ann, close call girl etc. have been gone for generations. Thus the old blood is now the "current" blood. I.e. look at the hounds Branko currently has on his website. You will see they are all linebred on the "old" blood. Therefore you have the "new" blood.
Re: Kennel names
If two Branko bred dogs are mated, there pups are Branko breeding IE.. Branko Strain but not Branko bred. So do as he did take dogs someone else bred breed them together and give them your name keep producing great dogs and years down the line you made be well known also. Then we be debating the same question just years later.

Re: Kennel names
When you breed 2 dogs, That is your cross, your idea, your vision, It should carry your name. Regardless what kennel name precedes yours in the pedigree. And If you buy a pup off of Branko and he gives you the puppy papers, you should automatically name that pup Branko __________. Please note that im only use ing his name as an example.
