If chromes owner wants to know for sure he should pull a million bucks out of his pocket and call the other owner out. Give the horses enough rest , line them up and see who comes out of top. let the truth be told head to head. problem solved.

Yet another situation where the owner tarnishes the reputation of a great animal... People take this crap way too seriously! I understand that there is a lot of money involved but this is a competition/sport...No one is curing cancer!

Chrome is a really good horse, sad for his legacy that what will be remembered was his owner pouting. Get over it, chances are your going to sell him now any ways for about 15 million to some breeding stable. Just like War Emblem in 2002, and Charismatic in 99, good horses who were on the verge of greatness. And as far a Secretariat.... Freak of Nature, set records in all three races, all of which still stand today.

Are there any dogs close to making AKC Grand Field Champion? I think that would be an extraordinary hound!

Also glad we don't see the crying over the rules at which they compete under i.e. 15" size limit!

The reason The belmont Field was so small When Secretariat ran, was because Sham and Secretariat had already Owned in them in the First 2 legs, owners knew they didn't have a Horse that could hang.
Secretariat had to Whip Sham, Affirmed had to Beat Alydar.
Who did Chrome have to beat?
A Great Story, but just a good Horse, not a Great One,
It's takes a Great One to pull it off.
The time for the Belmont this year was a snails Pace!
Chrome had a golden opportunity if He didn't win it that day He would never win it!
This years field would have been behind the Pack that Trialed Secretariat by 31 Lengths!
The Owner was crying sour Grapes, but They still have a Stud worth 5-6 Million and they can Stud the Crap out of Him.
Count Fleet ran a freakin Tuneup ran between The Preakness & The Belmont, and the crushed em in the Belmont.
That's the kinda Horses that are called Triple Crown Winners! Great Horses, not just another Good Horse!
Well see another one Do it, Hopefully Soon!

Did I hear one time Secretariat was not a producer? As in....his offspring?

Secretariat could never produce another horse as good as himself. He sired some stakes winners, but nothing on his level. I think in part, it was due to his enlarged heart (which is passed on from the mare's side). Secretariat had a 22 pound heart (largest ever recorded), but couldn't pass on that enlarged heart gene. I read that he got his enlarged heart from the Princequillo bloodline (his mothers mother). Had he been bred to mare's with that same genetic, he may have produced much better horses. I believe at the time they were breeding him, it was thought that trait came from the sire's side, just recently they realized that wasn't the case. The dominance of secretariat interests me to no end, and I've read almost everything I could on the horse. Very interesting stuff.

Smoke'n Mack, we got something in common, I've always loved anything written or recorded about Big Red.. He was Perfection, or at least as perfect as We will ever see...a Freak of nature. I love the Stuff Bill Nack has done. Maybe somebody will breed a Beagle That Good someday? Lol that's kinda my goal..

Oh by the Way A Son of Secretariat , Risen Star won the Preakness and The Belmont in 1988, in the 2nd fastest time.. second to Daddy, but that time will never be Beat.....2:24..
The Derby that Year was Huge, easy for the best horse not to be in a position to win.
He had a few other good offspring, but he was never gonna reproduce himself!

Completely agree! Chrome was a good horse with average competition. I have a feeling if Tonalist hadn't had a lung infection and was able to run and qualify for the Derby most of America would have no idea who California Chrome even is.

I too am completely fascinated with Secretariat as well as horse racing, the genetic probability of him is hard to imagine...He was literally a "perfect storm" of an animal!!
