Vaccinations

Post by Ole Mule »

After your pup has had his series of puppy shots do you follow up one year later with a booster shot and every three years there after with a booster shot?

Here's an interesting video interview with a vet.

Wireman, Good video clip. I believe that I am on record stating that I never vaccinate a hound beyond two years of age for anything other than Rabies. The only reason I do so for rabies is the law requires it or I wouldn't vaccinate every three years for that either. I don't recall ever having any hound contract a disease in their lifetime. I also believe that keeping a hound in good condition plays a big role in a hounds ability to ward off sickness,. Don't ever let a hound get run down!

Wireman, old country vet happens to be my vet!!! Have talked dogs for hours with him. Got him on speed dial and his vacation home number..LOL This old fella is straight forward and brutally honest with his clients, he is not afraid to tell people when they are THINKING nonsense.
He has also told me to split a vaccine between two pup/dogs, reasoning is that if 1 bottle that can treat either a 5lb puppy or 140lb mastiff why cant it be split between two little pups.
When I argued the subject about vaccinating every year he asked why I don't vaccine my children every year or myself.....because it is not needed after the booster!!
Here is another good article, make sure you read final results at the end.

Rcoff, you say vet recommended, ask your vet to show you a study that was done saying a dog MUST be vaccinated yearly. Of course he is going to recommend it so he can pocket a few extra bucks, I recommend you send me some...LOL
In the end I guess if that's what makes some feel better then keep doing what your doing and spending a little extra cash you DON"T need to.

He also knows I give my own shots, he gets nothing out of it; buy from TSC or similar.

Most Vets recommend it to everyone . By doing so they do get something out of it. I am just as sure as they are that if they don't play this same game with the fellow who does give his own shots , the ones that don't give their own shots will eventually hear of it, Don't you think? I am quite sure they think so! darn if that wasn't hard to figure out!

Yep, my vet went to school for a lot of years to learn what's best for my dog if I didn't believe that I wouldn't even go to them. If I can't afford 7.00 a year for my dog for a shot it's time to get out of beagling.
Thanks,
Bob

My vet is near 75 years old and says that veterinarians are ripping people off and that yearly vaccines are not needed and he went to veterinary school a lot of years and they told him and wanted him to believe otherwise but scientific studies showed him different. I guess it makes since to believe the one that wants to see you spend money.

Where do find a vet that charges only $7 for giving a vaccine?
