Chafed Balls

Post by NY Mike »

I was running my male last week. He brought a rabbit around 5-6 times and we couldn't get a shot at it. I don't know if his balls are chafed because he is mad at me for not getting the rabbit or from rubbing on alll the thick briars. Anyways his sack is rubbed raw. Anybody know what to put on them to help the healing? And, is there any prevention- besides killing the rabbit on first or second go round?

I would use Bag-Balm. That is what they use on cows for the same exact reason. Should do the trick!

we went on a hunting trip to Indiana this weekend and two of my three males had the same thing happen to them.on saturday we noticed that they looked like they were bleeding from there nuts so i got them and sure enough they looked like they didnt have any hair on there sacks and they were bloody looking and the skin on them were real thin , but then by sunday it looked like the youngest of the two was back to normal and the other one was still like that when when we came home on sunday but three hours later when we got home it was back to normal i have never seen this happen before my dogs are ran hard all year so its not like they are tender. anyways hope this helps if anyone has ever seen this before any input would be appreciated thanks.

A good buddy of mine uses Chap Stick on his hounds. It seems to work great. I won't mention any names, but just remember never borrow chap stick from a fellow beagler. That's your tip of the day!!!

NY Mike,
My buddies bassets always end up like that when the snow is granular. Like dragging them through glass, can you imagine? I told him he should have his wife who is always knitting make them a "nut mitten" or "ball bag" ! He just laughs....but his hounds eyes I swear look even sadder than usual when it happens. I'll ask what he puts on them when I see him next. In the meantime cheer up and try not to be such a "sad sack"!

I not from northern NY. I'm still south of 49. Above 49, Well we won't get into that. There are kids on this site. NYH may be able to tell some stories though.

NYMike,
I thought you were up in Parish? Thats north by most people I know of standards. As far as stories go I am full of them but they are all G or perhaps at worst PG13 rated. I'm not above some slightly off color humor but I draw the line there. I watch where I place my feet so I don't step into something thats stinks and am able to prevent dragging it into the house, if you get my drift. ;) I truely hope you were not taking a shot at me. I would not have expected one from your direction. :(
Peace,
NYH

NYMike,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I was worried I may have offended you somehow and would never have wanted to do that! Glad we are still on good terms.

I think Desitin ointment would take care of it but you might want to run the ingredients by a vet first (phone call)............
