I was in the winners pack a few weeks ago watch 3 dogs run that were 40 ft off the line running like they were looking at the rabbit my dog and 2 more ran the rabbit straight threw dead on the line those dogs were not picked up went over the hill and brought the rabbit back saw the rabbit make his turn dogs came on running the track ran over the point where the rabbit turned maybe 10 feet are so the judges picked my dog along with the other two that had just done wonderful on the other line up for rough running and left those others down the ones left down were all being handled by paid handlers for well known people and I here people on here saying u don't have to be in the circle please tell that to someone who doesn't no any better.

If you keep losing quit whining and just look at the end of your lead strap and start there.

This topic is brought up 1 or 2 times a year and usually by someone that is
1. new to the sport
2. never seems to place a hound
3. the trialer that feels they were wronged a a particular trial.
I will speak of Midwest trials beacause that is what I have participated in for 20+ yrs. There are always 2 judges never 1 at the end of the day the judges must agree on a final placement of hounds 1 judges DOES not get the final say.
For the most part clubs do a pretty good job of having a good group of judges from throughout the Midwest so that everyone attending feels represented and it is pretty rare that influenced judging happens , I will not say it does'nt because it does in ALL sports from time to time but it is not the norm.
So if you are new to the sport try going to a trial and just watch the hounds running and see if this is for you.
If you have never placed a hound or it is rare then you should see if your hounds have what it really takes and there can be a large number of reasons for this. and lastly if you feel as though you were slighted in some manner at a trial you have a couple alternatives.
1. let it go and move on
2. Never run under the judges that in your mind made a bad decision
3. and lastly accept the fact that you are relying on an animal that has a brain the size of a walnut and they are ALL ging to have off days.
These are just some of my observations I have come to and hopefuly this topics does not come up again.

Who am I kidding We will be reading it again in June after all spring trials are done.
Good Luck , Tom Summers
