A Hypothetical Question
I know a female dog can have pup's by multiple males if bred by all within a certain time frame but does anyone know how many hours or day's would have to pass between two males breeding a female before it wouldn't matter what you bred her too while in season she has already stuck ? Some say after eight hours passes between breedings if a bitch has already dropped her eggs she will be bred by previous sire and not any there after. so what do you think ? This is a hypothetical question.

Sperm and Fertilization:
If the sperm gets no further than the vaginal canal, it will survive for just a few hours, due to exposure to acidic vaginal secretions. However, a woman’s body has a built-in mechanism to give the reproductive process a boost: around the time of ovulation, a healthy female body produces a particular cervical mucous that creates a protective, hospitable environment for sperm; in fact, the consistency of the mucous even helps the sperm make its way (commonly referred to as “swimming”) through the vagina to the cervix. Under ideal circumstances, if healthy sperm get beyond the cervix into the uterus and up to the fallopian tubes, they can live as long as 5-7 days after ejaculation. On average, though, sperm live about 3-4 days once they’ve made it all the way to the fallopian tubes, where fertilization takes place. (A woman’s egg, on the other hand, is viable for only about one day once it leaves the ovary.)

In a healthy stud dog, sperm survival can last up to 7 days in the female. Not every dog can produce sperm that can live that long.

So go ahead and do the DNA Test.

Re: A Hypothetical Question
I guess it really all depends when the bitch is programed by genetics to release her eggs. Some drop early in the cycle, some in the middle and some at the end. My Pop Fannie bitch dropped her eggs the first week of heat, if you bred her the second or latter, you got no pups, once the eggs are in place and no sperm fertilize them within a period, they are released and flushed out. If your bitch drops her eggs late in the cycle, any and all the strong surviving sperm, no matter from what male or date of mating, will have a go at the eggs and have a chance at becoming the daddy. (the survival time of sperm from a "dog" I've always understood to be somewhere around the 72hr. mark)(the eggs only viable for a day, so as not to have puppies of different age & stage of development at whelping, your big pup is not 3 or 4 days older than the runt).
