what style of dogs do pkc run

Just wondering I think it would be fun to win cash prizes instead of a trophy does anyone no of any clubs near central ky thanks for any info on running style speed hunt exc and what blood lines are doing good in this format

Never been to a PKC trial, however I have read the rules .The rules are very similar to the UKC H&H format....So just a guess , the hounds are similar in style as H&H hounds as well. A lot of emphasis on speed and drive.

I don t know but what I can understand it take a fast fast dog. I was thinking about doing one here in NC but after talking to the guy on the phone about how the judge part was.That just put me off.I just don t like giving a dog a score just because hes at the front.I love to see the hold pic.How did he get there.Another thing is.I here that after the money is talking out to pay for the hunt.Theres not much left for the club that's putting on the trial.I don t know but if I am wrong please correct me.

What style of dog, one that hunts, and decent foot, with good line control
Reasons....
1- hunt, at anytime in trial, with the exception of the 1st min after dogs released at start of hunt,if dog doesn't hunt, standing around,(JUDGE )puts them on clock. They have 5 min to return hunting. If time expires they are scratched out of cast. Also first hound to strike in gets 100 strike pts, 2nd hound 75 etc.If hounds do not make forward progress in 3 min all hounds that struck in recieve -100, -75,etc. If hounds do make forward progress and rabbit seeks refuge then hounds that struck in recieve 100 circle pts, 75 circle pts, etc.
2- decent foot and line control comes into play when a rabbit has been seen by one of the handlers. Then they mark a LINE were rabbit come across rd, went into thicket, etc. from spot were rabbit was you have total of 10ft. 5 ft on each side. Hound has to go through that 10ft space. 1st hound gets 100 line pts,2 nd 75 line pts, etc.
That's just a basic explanation of scoring and what style of hound.

Now! What bloodlines are doing good in format. To answer that honestly.....
Who knows? I've seen reg hounds run and I've seen a ton of grade hounds run.
All it states when reg your dog in PKC, is and it says " of the beagle breed"
So if that sucker is 1/2 beagle x 1/2 fiest, and will run a rabbit, you can run him in PKC trial.

I've been to a couple of PKC hunts. I enjoyed running in it, but my opinion they need to fine tune the rule book.

No! They do not have to measure in, but they can't be over 15". If somebody thinks there over hunt director has to measure them.
Like I said, they need some fine tuning. Lol!!!
