Re: Beagle Clubs
A great club is one where more than a couple of people carry the load. There's always something to do, especially cleaning the facility after the hunt. The kitchen is another area that needs more participants. Usually, it's the wives that run the kitchen but a lot of us can cook/grill too. Another thing is to post the results in a timely manor. Everyone likes to see their name but also are interested in the winners.
A great hunt for me is one where there are plenty of rabbits at all the spots. In reality, not all spots are equal but all have rabbits. Drawing for a cast spot takes more time. but might be more random. I like to see good scores, with fair judging and to see more people win than the same few. I like a judge that explains why he scored or didn't score a certain situation. Looking for good sportsmanship and camaraderie. Every dog has his day, but luck plays a role too. Bout all I can think of.

Re: Beagle Clubs
It takes a good leader. I host a lot of trials. No matter what, you have to get the bad ones out. Then the rest will fall in place because the good ones will look up at the leader because hes straight up.In my club I don t care who wins.I ve got a point that I will put up with but go across that point. You re out.I do it all here at the club,I build the club house, the rabbit pens and do all the cooking, everything but judge now.I just cannot do it all.
In the early 90s we had a good ARHA club until after three years a guy up north came down and bust the club up.You talk about someone showing his tell. That man did not like it cause he lost.We had to put in the watch dog com,but they never done nothing about it.So we just stop doing it,if there re going to let someone like that in trials. We don t want no part of it.Now we have it If someone get mad about not winning. He can come back the next time and he can judge.Have not have any trouble in a long time now.
